Scottish Island to become ashram (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/glasgow_and_west/8277970.stm)

crowds arrive hoping for cures to diseases like multiple sclerosisEric has been doing the yoga for three months and says it is already helping his diabetes. Eric believes in the cancer-treating claims made for pranayama."We have cured hypertension, thyroid problems, asthma, arthritis, [and on cancer] the cancer cells cannot survive in an oxygenated environment - this is a scientific truth," said Baba Ramdev."With Swami Ji's pranayama your actual intake of oxygen increases to 10 times. So when you have more oxygen in your blood cells the cancer cell does not thrive," added Mrs Poddar. "I was a bit sceptical before. But now because I have experienced the benefit, I know.So I'm glad the BBC included some balance about these health claims from mainstream medical opinion. Oh wait, no they didn't. Yes, I've complained.

I liked this part:

Sam and Sunita Poddar have lived in Glasgow for 32 years after moving from India, and made their fortune in care homes.

...

Mrs Poddar is dedicated to pranayama and says it changed her life.
No kidding. It made her a "fortune".

It's a shame yoga has been raped by woo'ers. It's a great work out, and the more difficult practices of it (like Bikram) really make you feel like a different person afterwards. It's a great way to get blood circulating and feel energized. But of course, this isn't enough, and woo'ers need to go the "cancer treating" route. Unlike homeopathy, yoga actually has benefits, but those benefits are exaggerated by wackos.

Swami Ji is breaching the UK's Cancer Act of 1939 by claiming that yoga can cure the disease. From what I can gather the island in question is in the catchment area of North Ayrshire Trading Standards, and I've just brought this to their attention.
