Quick background: Best friend, Jen by name, has serious life issues, but is relatively sane. Said friend has just been offered 100k a year to be a spokesman (and this is a girl younger than me we're talking about!), in her words, "for the fight against the Silent Holocaust."
She then links me to this (http://www.freedomfchs.com/).
I've met these people before. They think I'm a lizard from outer space with a mind-controlling microwave laser. Her stepfather got her into this, and if I don't get her out, she could actually be in danger. I've been worried about her before, but now I'm actually scared for her life--these people are volatile, armed and delusional. Help, please! What the hell do I do!?:scared:

Give her a copy of the New Testament and ask her to read Ephesians Chapter 6. Evil is a bluffer and has already been defeated by the Lord Jesus. Ask her to meditate on the gospel.

$100k/year is a decent salary. Here in California, where the cost of living is pretty high, that would be the going rate for a trained professional with several years of experience in that field. I'd expect candidates to have a relevant four-year degree, and a proven track record of being good at the job (evidenced by employment history and professional references).
I'd also expect the prospective employer to be a for-profit business making good money selling whatever it is it's selling, or an entrepeneurial startup with a sound business plan and a capitalist backer, or a non-profit agency receiving substantial private and/or public grants.
So: Is your friend a professional PR flack, familiar with ad buys, marketing campaigns, media presence, etc.?

She's a 19-year-old high school graduate who lives with her boyfriend. I'm not sure what the angle is there.

The point being made is that the offer of $100k / year is almost surely a hoax.
Not that money has any place in matters of morality, lying to people about conspiracies, etc., but if you can show right off the bat that they're lying about this, it should be pretty easy to convince her that the whole thing is bogus.

That's what I'm trying to tell her, yes. I think she appreciates the situation, at least.

There are articles on the Internet that give advice on what to do if someone you care about joins a dodgy movement, like this: What to do if a Friend Or Loved-One Joins a Cult. (http://www.weird.co.uk/martin/cultout.txt) You might get more advice here: The Cult Information Centre. (http://www.cultinformation.org.uk)

Tell her to get the offer in writing. If they're willing to enter into a contract stipulating your friend's $100k salary, then the offer it probably legitimate. If they won't put anything in writing, then that should convince her that she's being scammed.

That website is insane. "do you suffer from classic signs of schizophrenia plus frequent car break downs?" "well yes, and.. come to think of it..." "Your problem is you just have the wrong delusions! It's not demons or your own subconscious, but the government messing with you! We can protest that with signs and websites!"

I had a quick look through it, wow seriously wow. These guys are actually promoting wearing tinfoil to block out "electronic harassment".

Yes, nand by wearing tinfoil, or shooting out neon lights (my own addition). Point is, they externalize and give you a sense that this is something you can stop once you've IDd the source. And it's not with therapy or drugs.
Now, I'm an open-minded chap. If this phenom is real, to some extent, and it's possible, we'll need some careful studies that can rule out brain problems and actually measure harassment signals, etc. Until then, I'll consider it nuts.

This is probably going to cost me skeptic goodwill points for admitting this, but my first thought upon reading this was, "I'd totally take these n00bs for their 100K a year".

If she is going to be a spokesperson, she should understand what that job entails, and how it might affect her mental health and quality of life.
To that end, you should invite her to these forums. Explain that the skeptical people here offer a fair representation of what detractors will be saying. It's ok if they don't agree with her. She will need to hone her arguments.
After a few rounds here, (and assisted by the inevitable waffling on her salary) she may be able to see the flaws in this group. Or not. 19 year old girls can be awfully delusional.

That page is painful to read. Those poor people, having to live with delusions like that and, worse, having them "confirmed" and enhanced by websites like these. Heartbreaking. One can only hope that the mental health professionals listed on the same page are working to reduce belief in this nonsense.

Oh goodness are the "gang stalking" people aren't they? Its a really sad group - mostly people suffering from paranoid schizophrenia or delusions of grandeur. Anyone who tells them to seek mental help is part of the gang stalkers against them. They find other people suffering from mental illnesses like theirs and reinforce each others delusions through forums and telephone conferences.
The 100k offer is of course a hoax, most of these people are mental patients and couldn't put that much money together. They are dangerous though if she stops "working" for them since she'll become part of the gang stalkers in their mind. Once they identify you as part of the group against them, they can be dangerous.

That site is fascinating in a heebie-jeebies sort of way. There but for the grace of tiny amounts of chemicals go I, and all that.
For example, five years ago I started getting "ice-pick" headaches. They are painful & truly terrifying but only last 20 -30 seconds. The first time it happened I thought it was an aneurysm.
These headaches are rare, I've had only four since they started. The last event was on an elevator coming up from the subway. Every other time, it had been at home. They were a little over a year apart.
If I were already prone to CT fantasies, I may have covered my walls in mylar or some such thing. To have an attack, in public while surround by strangers, any of whom could have looked threatening, would have seemed very significant. Mentioning it to my family would have made them think I was crazy.
To live in a world where every event becomes significant would be incredibly frightening. Combined with the sleep deprivation that is a common theme, it would be hell on earth.

If she is a Christian, and your use of church in the title suggested to me that she is religious, then his advice is relevant. Your aim is to use arguments that resonate with her.

Yes, that one. MKULTRA, microwave transmitters, that sort of thing. I've met and debated with these guys before, and... well, I'm just glad I took precautions, because when they decided I was a perp, the admin posted my (fake) email and (proxy) IP address. I tried to talk them down, but one of them started saying he could hear my thoughts. By the time they banned me, I was getting cursed at, threatened with death, asked how I stole life energy and manipulated the weather, blamed for every bad thought a person can have, including some I was tearing myself apart for having at the time, and one middle-aged lady was begging me to make the government return her children. Did I mention I was sixteen at the time?

This is stalking and harassment done to an individual by two or more persons or groups. Some suggestions:
*
Document everything! This will do two things. It will make the stalkers more careful and maybe your life easier. And it will provide a record in the event of legal action. Get a camera if you don't have one and start taking pictures or video.
Step 1: read into everything and take paranoid pictures of absolutely everything that vaguely resembles a boogie-man.
Get a blog. This is an online web log of the harassment that is happening to you. It will help you organize your thoughts and would provide easy access to a record when talking to government officials or lawyers who may be able to help you.
Step 2. Share all this documentation online and allow others to positively reinforce your paranoid delusions. Any negative feedback is surely from your Friendly Government Stalker.

I purchased pairs of copper scouring pads and aluminum scouring pads, unrolled them, and wrapped the mesh around my head (covering forehead and tops of ears) like a ~4" wide sweat band, frequently doubling them up into an ~8" sweat band (covering eyes and ears and extending beyond forehead) (wire twist ties were used to configure the mesh into a sweat band).
Ok, who the hell uses two brackets back to back in the same sentence???

This group meets by conference calls? All someone has to do is point out that these calls are connected by AT&T, which has the Death Star as its logo. No more nutters.

Given you were into CT fantasies and then got out of them, have your experiences given you any insights into things Jontg could try to help his friend see these people for who they are and give up the idea of getting more involved with them?

I agree it is painful. I had a further look around this site and came across a petition that can be signed demanding an end to electronic warfare and organised stalking. On this page are 498 signatures with comments. I will not quote any of them as many are quite distressing, but simply offer a link so others can judge for themselves.
http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/synergy/signatures.html
In my opinion this is a scam, how money is actually generated I'm honestly not quite sure but there is a page for donations. This entire site feeds off and fuels fear and paranoia. The comments on the petition page are testament to this. I haven't read all the comment nor have I looked any further at this group other than to google them. One page did grab my attention.

They're not foreign terrorists or anti-government extremists. The network consists of your next door neighbor, the mail carrier, the cable guy, the store clerk, the cop(s), the attorney, the judge, the priest, the dentist, the chiropractor, etc; etc; people that you would never ever suspect of harboring criminal intent.
Everybody and anybody can be your enemy. To me it quite appalling and disturbing that people who seem to be in need of medical attention are targeted like this.
I would have serious reservations about accepting anything from these guys especially something so appealing as 100k. Check and double check it is all above board and check what strings are attached to the offer, they will be there.

In that case, the scenario you describe is so absurd as to admit of no rational analysis.
If your friend needs this explained to her, then I have serious doubts about your claim that she is "relatively sane".

Go to your library and check out the DSM IVTR. Sit down with your friend and read the list of diagnostic items for paranoia. Check off all the ones that appear on that web page (because it looks like they copied DSM for their list of ways you can tell you're being stalked.)
