Like to know what to look for, which websites or stores are good places to get a used system. The type of system I am thinking of getting is a Dell (as I have work with Dells in the past I have work as customer support for them in the past and I am working a Dell contract now). If you know of any, I would appreciate it. Thanks.

Totally misread that as "rubbish."
On topic, however:
My wife has had refurbished dell laptops for the past 5 or 6 years. They all ran great with one notable exception, however I can't hold Dell accountable for my wife spilling red wine on her laptop.
Dell's website has the refurbished deals on it. Check this:
http://www.dell.com/content/segmenter.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dfo
(They call the refurbished store the "Dell Outlet" now.)

Thanks for the information, I do know about this, but I was looking for something more cheaper let's say between $100 to $250.

There are a few on this site:
http://microcenter.com/
If you have a microcenter near you, they usually have old overstock to sell too.

You aren't going to find many computers in that price range unless you build it yourself or you go for a netbook. You can find ones in your upper price range on tigerdirect but most are horribly underpowered though I suppose if you are only doing basic tasks they will do.

Getting a refurbished machine from the manufacturer can be a good deal. The major websites, HP, Compaq, Lenovo/IBM, Dell all have a section that describes what is on hand and it's updated as necessary.
See if the machine you have in mind can be purchased with an extended manufacturer's warranty (which I recommend). If they'll sell it to you, it says something, IMO, about the machine.
Due to Windows 7, models are changing and it might be a good time to shop the refurb market.
In general, I wouldn't buy a used machine from a third party unless it was really cheap and came with credible promises.

Good luck with that ..
Truly ' refurbished ' means tested to be in good working order ..
A reputable refurbisher could not recover their handling cost for $100 ..
What do you plan to use it for ?
If you find a good computer for $250, it may be inadequate for what you wish to accomplish..

I've never bought from them but there is a site called PacificGeek.com that sell some really cheap systems. I think I've seen as low as $59. It's kind of a bait & switch because they seem to strip them down and then offer upgrades to get back to a half decent system. Might be worth a look.
