The Astronomy Picture Of The Day site has one up this morning indicating that if one "smeared" the various color-perceived stars, galaxies, etc. into an average across the entire sky, the result would be a rather yechhy beige:

No doubt interior designers would be happy to refer to it as "taupe" or perhaps "light bamboo"...

This explains why cars and houses are so often painted the way they are. (Except in Puerto Rico.)

My friend who owned a lot of rental properties used to call it "Rental Tan".

That's living proof that the universe is really a simulation run inside an old Dell minitower (http://www.dealtime.com/xPF-Dell-Optiplex-GX110-GX110). :D

I read that years ago. They thought it was worth publishing mostly because they had made a mistake in their initial claculation, which indicated that the universe was a much more interesting shade of light green.

If there is an Intelligent Designer, he sure has poor taste for decorating. I would not ask him for advice on what color I should paint my walls.

That is 'magnolia (http://img.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2007/02_02/badtasteDM2102_468x311.jpg)' in the UK.

It could also be a factor of what wavelengths we choose to include in our photo. If we were taking photos in the infrared range only then we would have a different average colour.

Here is an experiment for you. Take a typical photo and smear all the colours so that only one colour exists. You might find it is not too different from the photo linked in the OP.

I asked my brother what color his car was. He said "plain".
