Read your bible first!!! It is god based. None of those other books you listed are! They are science based.

Or something like that....

Given: The only book I've ever read is- A Short History of Nearly Everything. I would suggest that you start with the easier to read items. I haven't read all of those, so I can't say about some of them, but:

1. Surely You're Joking, Mr. Feynman!": Adventures of a Curious Character -- Has a few advantages -- it's about a real and famous person, so sort of fun that way. He led a very interesting life. And it's funny.

2. Longitude: The True Story of a Lone Genius Who Solved the Greatest Scientific Problem of His Time. A pretty fun story about the developement of clocks, also well written and fairly easy to read.

I might also suggest a book called 'King soloman's Ring', which is a very absorbing book about animals and how they comunicate with each other.

I presume this is an assignment. If not, the selection is rather heavy on "understanding the universe" books. Personally I would eliminate a few, and replace them with some real life.

I would try to balance books of varying scope and length. Don't read all the 'universe' books together, and don't read all the 'close study' books together.

Add some fiction books anyway. If you've only read one book, you have no idea what you are missing. :(

The order I would read them:

The Universe in a Nutshell

Surely You're Joking, Mr. Feynman!": Adventures of a Curious Character

The Empty Ocean: Plundering the World's Marine Life

The Greatest Inventions of the last 2000 years

For Love of Insects

A Gap in Nature: Discovering the World's Extinct Animals

The Universe and Multiple Reality: A Physical Explanation for Manifesting, Magick and Miracles

Longitude: The True Story of a Lone Genius Who Solved the Greatest Scientific Problem of His Time

Extinct Birds

The Elegant Universe : Superstrings, Hidden Dimensions, and the Quest for the Ultimate Theory

Illustrated Brief History of Time
