Ahmadinejad to cancel food, fuel subsidies, for transfer to nuclear projects
DEBKAfile Special Report
November 8, 2009, 8:35 PM (GMT+02:00)

Gains unfettered control of national expenditure
Iran's parliament (Majlis) Sunday, Nov. 8, granted president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad unlimited control of an estimated $30-50 billion of national treasure under legislation empowering him to cancel government subsidies on food and fuel.

DEBKAfile's Iranian sources report that the president demanded the transfer of subsidy funding to the nation's nuclear and missile programs, preparations for war and measures to offset international sanctions.

No butter and guns, just guns.

Isn’t being a president/dictator nice?

Oh how we all flocked to DEBKA right after 9/11.
We were so insecure and anything seemed possible in the light of what had just happened.

But after absorbing about a week of sensationalist claims from them, and nothing panning out, I gave up.

Then the anthrax scare came and again we looked for answers. And we went back to DEBKA. After all DEBKA is Israeli, and Israel has a renowned secret service, and that means that by extension Israelis will know a lot of secret stuff.

But again all the articles by DEBKA turned out to be sensationalist BS and I just gave up.

They're taking the money from the people in the first place though. They wouldn't need handouts if it weren't for the taxes for nukes.

It's not far fetched to say that a government like Iran's will solve their starvation problem by testing out some weapons.

55% of the government's budget came from oil and natural gas revenues. Given the levels of poverty amoung certian sections of the population it cannot reasonably asserted that taxes make a significant impact one way or the other as to their ability to purchase unsubersides food and fuel.

Aren't you * supposed to be worshipping at the altar of the Euro?

At the OP:

You say that like it's a bad thing.

I note that boyntonstu posts from a wealthy nation that spends billions on military (including a nuclear arsenal) daily, while the social safety net (such as it is) falls apart...
