View Full Version : Were you born a Psi?

A quote from someone on another forum, discussing how one might detect a person with psi capabilities:
Of course, I thought I'd mentioned that before. Folks have a part of their
signature that we're calling the "birth-switch". Approximately 90% of the
population are nons--this part of the sig is just missing in them. The rest can
be identified as born-psi by their birth-switch (you can also determine
approximately what sort of born-psi they are).
In addition to the birth-switch tone, there's an active tone that identifies
anyone who actively uses psi, regardless of their birth-switch.
It can be difficult to identify a partial who's shut down their abilities, as
they will not have an active tone--but they WILL still have the partial
birth-switch tone, if you look closely enough to find it. None of the other
birth-switches can shut down their abilities completely.
Just thought you'd like to know.

More of a lambda, or maybe a xi, myself. Definitely not a delta or sigma.

It reads just like a supplement for some obscure role-playing game. Here is a small sample
Born-on:
Persons with this birth-switch usually have at least 4 talents, one from each Aspect, usually spectral. These are generally level 2, except for the primary, which is level 2 to 3. Born-ons have some problems with development. Born-ons are almost always able to sense the birth-switch of other people, and usually the level of ability. Born-ons generally exhibit at least some of the non psi-talent related characteristics of psions, usually at least 4 to 10.
I keep looking for the chart to tell me what I need to roll to be what kind of psion.

How does this tie in to the Indigos?

From the FAQ:
12. Q: Can you prove it to me?
A: Not yet. Our best advice is that if you really have an interest in this, try developing your own abilities. You'll be able to correlate your experiences with those of others, and gain enough validation for yourself, in time. Objective proof, however, is not yet within our reach. Most psis have no patience with people who demand that they demonstrate their abilities.
Because we will laugh and point and call them frauds!!:D

Indigos are a sub-class that you can choose to specialize in after level 3. They get better hit dice, but negatives to Charisma and they lose one Aspect permanently.

Being an Indigo with "Weapon Specialization: Grenade Launcher" kicks @$$. You get psionic abilities AND a good weapon!

These birth switches...are they like dip switches, or are they small round things like Microsoft "radio buttons", only kind of reddish? Because I have three on my bum which form a line in exactly the same orientation * as the pyramids at Gizeh.
*(If I lie facing east north east with my derriere in the air).
I knew I was destined for greatness.

If you change the settings, you have to reboot for it to take effect.

Perhaps this is a role-playing game and the woman is just yanking my chain. Then again, perhaps it is a role-playing game and she doesn't know she's yanking my chain.

It wought to be good, but they have to put most of their skill points into the "Spouting meaningless twaddle" special ability.
Hey, I just looked through that psion guild site. They actually have "psychic hazard" symbols!
hazard symbols (http://www.thepsionguild.net/hazard.html)
Maybe I'll change my avatar. That laser hazard looks pretty dull compared to a level 10 psychic hazard.

But aren't the different danger levels supposed to have different colors?

You know, now that I've read the entire Psi Genetics Theory carefully, I'm beginning to wonder if it isn't an elaborate put-on. Is it possible that my interesting and serious conversation with this woman over the past week has just been part of an elaborate game?

Unfortunately, "Spout Meaningles Twaddle" is a prerequisite for any of the character classes mentioned on that site.;)
