I remember seeing a show as a kid during the '80s or '90s. It was mostly set on spacecraft, although it started out on a very polluted (and rainy) Earth.
I can't clearly remember much about the show except for an episode where a guy made a mass driver out of spare parts that shot like a cannon and saved them from the bad guy, but the hero had to hold a broken circuit board together with his bare hands and got a shock from it.
I also remember some episode where the main ship of the series was somehow merely a piece of a much larger ship that the bad guy had created for some master plan.
The series had a very juvenille feeling to it with mostly younger characters (like SeaQuest) that leads me to suspect it was either Disney, ABC, or possibly CBS.
Does anyone have any idea wtf I am talking about?

I think you may mean the English show "Red Dwarf" ( Did they have English accents?)
There was a flop late 1970's "space garbage collection" comedy series called "Quark". This might be it.

Was it a comedy or was it serious?
Was there a laugh track?

It sounds like either Bozo The Clown or Happy Days.

Oh I found one on the list that bugged me for ages, could never remember its name, (Tomorrow people) but due to that I just relived my youth in signature tunes on youtube. Was fun!

The circuit board gag reminded me of "spies like us".
