I use a free Hotmail account, and I have some complaints.
The new interface works inconsistently with my IE (latest) and I sometimes have to use Netscape to see my Inbox.
The server is often busy, rendering my mailbox unavailable. This is the case this morning. Perhaps it's because it's the Monday after New Years, and a lot of people are checking their mail after not using it for a week or two. But this happens at other times as well.
Question to anyone out there who pays for Hotmail: Does the busy server situation affect you? I can't imagine paying for this *****.

Hotmail is spam-central for email. Sign up for hotmail if you like email spam. There are numerous free web based email services that work like a charm from any browser.

I like yahoo. I switched from hotmail awhile ago and have no complaints.

I saw a sharp decline in Hotmail spam in the last two months. Mine fell to near zero. I had the spam filters on "Exclusive", meaning only mail from addresses on my permitted list got to the inbox. Anything else went to a trash folder, auto-dumped weekly.
I also know that at least three emails from people which should have got through, did not. MS appear to be filtering spam aggressively and erring on the safe side. Can't fault them for this , as it's a no-win (sorry) situation.
So if you have not tried Hotmail in a year or so, you might be surprised.
That said, having finally taken the plunge to broadband, I now scarcely use the Hotmail account.

Yup, the spam has suddenly all but disappeared.
I used hotmail and yahoo in parallell for a while, but yahoo just plain sucked. :D

Why doesn't Hotmail allow you to send to an e-mail address with a descriptor. I mean the kind in the format of Joe Blow < joeblow@aol.com><joeblow@aol.com>. I receive e-mails with this format as the return address, and then do a reply which Hotmail won't send because it's an invalid e-mail address. This is really bad.
OK. I have another problem here. I used the characters that surround the e-mail address above, and it's removed from the posted text. Now the above paragraph makes no sense. How can I use the left and right pointy arrow things?
OK, I think I got it working.

I ran a hotmail and yahoo free account in parallel for a while and now no longer use hotmail.
Hotmail is a spam magnet, whereas my yahoo accounts are relativly spam free.
Also, thinking ahead to TAM2, I can set up a 'vacation response' for yahoo. I can't see anyway of doing that in hotmail.

I also ran with both Hotmail and Yahoo for several years.
Then Yahoo sold/traded away my e-mail address on my personal server.
Burn in hell Yahoo.
