...emails in my inbox with titles like "Critical Upgrade" or "Crucial System Patch", from sources like "Microsoft Internet Support Team", etc, that think they've convinced me the mail is genuine. I've never once fallen for this crap, and hopefully neither have you. These emails all contain attachments, but I don't know what those attachments are. And frankly, I don't care. They're most likely something bad.
Folks, unless you work for them, Microsoft will never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever send you an email - from the fictitious "Internet Support Department" or anywhere else. If there is a way to report these emails without opening, do it! Else, just pitch them.
Most of you probably know this. Some may not, and I felt it was important enough to bear mention.

Not to mention that the attachments are usually fairly large. I have a 10Meg inbox allocation from SBCGlobal and I opened the inbox one day to find that it was 89% full. The reason was due to the attachments you mention. Most seem to be about 150k a pop. I have added an inbox rule that routes these emails directly to trash.

Since that is manifestly self-evident, there isn't much to discuss.

Well, I see how you could hate M$ over this, certainly their buffer problems need to be fixed earlier, but I think it is the people who have nothing better to do than write computer viruses who are really to blame.

Well I tried to make it clear it wasn't Microsoft I had the problem with, but rather emails purporting to be from MS.

More! Arrrgh
Now I must get at least three of these a day. Yahoo Mail automatically throws them in the Spam folder, but that still takes up space. Mails from "Customer Support", "MS Internet Security Section", "Microsoft Internet Mail Delivery Service", "MS Network Security Section", "Microsoft Network Security Department", "Microsoft Product Support Division", and "Microsoft Internet Security Center" fill my inbox, practically right next to each other, and carry attachments that (as NightG1 mentioned) run consistently between 146k and 158k, and all with titles that yell to me about "Latest Critical Packs" and "Install This Patch Immediately". I'm SO flattered that Microsoft cares so much about my computer!!!!
What makes me angry is that there's somebody out there who sees "Microsoft Support Department" in the sender field and will download it because they don't know any better. These virus coders are truly the dregs of the computer hacker world. And don't give me any of that bullsh*t about "opening peoples' eyes" or "forcing them to realize that they need to be computer savvy in today's world", because it's just that - bullsh*t. Grandparents who use the net to send pictures to their families in New York neither want nor need to know the particulars of coding and registry work, nor should they need to be obsessed with security for a machine they use once every couple of days. Yet these are the people who most often fall victim to this garbage.
When the makers of whatever bug this is that's being emailed everywhere (they'll find him, they always do) is snagged, I propose a class-action lawsuit. Then, when he's in prison, he should be pressed into some sort of work to pay off the lawsuit judgement. Grrrrr!

Well, now that Mac's got a REAL OS behind it (BSD), rather than that two-bit bubble-gum windowing system that crapped out almost as often as Winblows, yeah, it is superior. Well, to Windoze, anyway.

You know what they call Windows. A 32-bit extension to a 16-bit graphical shell on an 8-bit operating system coded for a 4-bit microprocessor by a two-bit company that can't stand one bit of competition. :D

The fact that Chairman Bill has market dominance and oodles of money doesn't change the fact that his products tend to be really, really crappy. And "really, really crappy" is really, really kind.

I was told that SCO is going after Linux users ever since Gates bought a big chuck of SCO. True or just MS-hater rumors?

http://www.cnn.com/2004/TECH/internet/02/01/mydoom.reut/index.html
According to the article, SCO's website was shut down by a DoS attack, the result of computers being infected by the "MyDoom" worm. The worm hijacks PCs for use in conducting the attack, which was scheduled to launch when the host PC's date and time reached a specific point.
Microsoft is preparing for a similar assault on Tuesday. Their statement includes a warning not to open emails with file attachments from "official-looking" sources. Could the recent deluge of emails from false "Microsoft" sources with 150k attachments be the result of the "planting" phase of MyDoom.B?
