I was watching TV at the weekend, and I saw Japan's version of Who Wants to be a Millionaire (actually, it's 10 million yen/$100,000 they play for) where they had as one of the "celebrity" guests Japan's top fortune teller, who announced before she started that she predicted she'd win the prize.

Half way through the show, she said she did a chart for the host - a very well know 60-something drinker/smoker/bon vivant - that predicted he may have minor urinary problems, which guess what, he said he does!

Anyway, she gets through the (too easy, in our opinion) questions, all the way to the last one, describing how she has used logic and reasoning to aid her guesses (no mention of divine inspiration or whatever!), but gets the Y10 million question wrong!

To her credit, she did say before the show started that she was actually going to give the prize money to an African education charity; after she bought herself a small bauble, of course. This may not be surprising to you in the US/UK, but in Japan most quiz shows are celebs only and they always keep the often not insignificant loot.

Funnily enough, the guy on before her had a "lucky pencil" with A B C D written on the sides which he used thrice to get the right answer, including a 16:1 shot (he threw it twice for two Cs) to scoop the final Y10 million.

I often wonder why Jap TV shows have mostly celebrities on them winning lots of money that they don't need. I mean, c'mon........ pro baseball players throwing "baseball bingo" for 1,000,000 yen? What the hell?

You know, the sad thing about the fortune teller case is that her failure will not diminish her ability to suck money out of the suckers.

Even my favority jap celeb, Becky, is a woo woo. Dammit.
