Well, way too much God. From our friends at RaptureReady (http://www.rr-bb.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=125576) we have this sad piece of dementia from "IN-HIM":

Over the past few days satan has really been trying to attack my spirit for I feel as though he knows that time is short and he is trying to weaken me in the faith and spirit. I spend most of my day rebuking satan in the name of Jesus. It works for a little while then here he comes again.

Am I the only one who thinks this is both sad and funny? IN-HIM's satan-rebuking sounds like a problem I have sometimes when I have to shoo my dog repeatedly from the coffee table to keep him from stealing my snacks. But it's also a little sad because the guy really sounds tormented. He continues,

Prepare for Battle brothers and sisters for I believe our TRUE test of faith has begun! I have a very strong feeling that something is about to take place in this country, I can't explain it, just a feeling. Put on the armour of God, and remain stead-fast in your faith of the Lord so that KNOWONE steals your reward. Let us pray for one another that we will be able to face what is about to take place in this country.

Asked whether the "something" might be terrorism, IN-HIM tells us,

I do not know it is just a feeling I have. It is not my place to determine what the feeling is, just that God has given me a great blessing by knowing that something is coming upon us, and that we are not to be concerned only that we are to trust in him in every way.

How is this different from what we get from psychics? Lots of "I feel this..." and "I feel that..." The similarities between extreme religious devotion and paranormal devotion are remarkable.

I'd be more worried ABOUT the guy than for him. He sounds like he might turn dangerous.

I just took a brief glance at the above link and I suddenly realized something. Those guys use the same kind of grandious language that people who RPG too much and go to Ren-Fairs use:
I too hvae been fighting against deception whispered into my ears by the enemy.

What is really amusing is that that picture looks like one in the Jan/Feb 2004 issue of the Skeptical Inquirer (p. 31), but the warrior is the 'Skeptic' and the many-headed beast is the 'True Believer'.

I guess both sides like to view themselves in this way.

Personally, I think that Dove's got the best lot. Sandals make my feet chafe.

I think the enemy in this case is schizophrenia, not Satan.

"Put on the armour of God, and remain stead-fast in your faith of the Lord so that KNOWONE steals your reward."

I was going to recieve a very handsome reward once, but KNOWONE came along and stole it. I hope it doesn't happen to this guy, or anyone else, because getting a reward stolen sucks, especially if KNOWONE steals it. But it seems as if he wants KNOWONE to steal his reward...

BTW, who is KNOWONE?

Yes, yes, we've heard this all before. When someone doubts the ridiculous garbage that they believe, it's Satan's fault. Replace the word Satan with Logic and/or Reason, and it gets much clearer.

Over the past few days Logic has really been trying to attack my spirit for I feel as though [it] knows that time is short and [it] is trying to weaken me in the faith and spirit. I spend most of my day rebuking Logic in the name of Jesus. It works for a little while then here [it] comes again.

I used to belong to a semi-fundy group. Anytime a member of the group would leave to visit family for a week or two, or go on a vacation away from the church, they would come back describing about how they "almost fell away" and how "satan was trying to take advantage of them being away from their brothers and sisters" to cart them away from their faith.

What was really happening was that without the constant din of repetition and structure of the church, they started to think for themselves.

I also predict that something will happen in this country. That's an easy one. Something always happens. I just burped, for instance.

I wonder how their mods handle the more extreme specimens?

The JREF admin has had to act on a few occasions when members were clearly out of order, but one assumes that most JREF members will be inherently rational to some extent, so when they behave irrationally it's easy to spot.

But how do the folks at RR tell when they have a genuine, dangerous loony on their hands? Harder to spot a blackguard against a dark background I imagine.

I doubt those Rapture Folk have schizophrenia, I doubt any of them have ever once "heard [the] voices [of god]", however its not hard to imagine that some of the Rapture Folk have managed to take Self-deception to troubling new levels of pathological paranoia and anxiety...

RR is the land of self induced mental illness.

I'd rather be the many headed beast. It may look poorly off, but I think he's going for the crotch.

I'd parody that drawing but right now I'm using a computer that doesn't have anything other than Microsoft Paint.
