Is it immoral to yell "Richard Dawkins!" in a crowded fundy house?

File under 'mildly irritating and pointless'. Unless you see him walking in the door, in which case it's entirely understandable.

I would have liked to be able to answer the question with "I hope it is, I do it all the time", but alas I don't know any fundies personally.

I think you'd find the normal reaction would be "Who is Richard Dawkins?"

Dunno if my house qualifies as crowded, but if I say the name Richard Dawkins there is an instant erruption of hissing, noises of disgust and sounds of fake vomiting from my fundy family.

Is it immoral to yell "Richard Dawkins!" in a crowded fundy-house?

[X] In the exact opposite of "Fire!" in a crowded theater with no actual fire, it's immoral to yell this if Richard Dawkins is actually there.

I don't like yelling. I'd hate to be at a meeting of the Freedom From Religion Foundation and someone come in yelling JESUS.

I just don't like yelling. Wait your turn, be recognised by the Chair or hold the conch or whatever tradition may dictate, then calmly and at a moderate, appropriate volume merely say 'Richard...Dawkins' (you'll best judge that pause locally and in the moment). Anything else is boorish.

I'd go in yelling, "Darryl The Chocolate-Thunder-Flying, Robinzine-Crying, Teeth-Shaking, Glass-Breaking, Rump-Roasting, Bun-Toasting, Wham-Bam, Glass-Breaker-I-Am-Jam Dawkins!"

Because that would be moral and awesome.

Is it your contention then, that it is the yelling that is immoral and not the context of the blood curdling screech?

Perhaps you could have a little fun with this. Could you get a fake or, real for that matter, doctor's note that says you have a bad case of Tourettes Syndrome and then start just barking "Richard Dawkins!" at unexpected intervals? :D

A random thought: why is the title of this thread "Philosophical Question"?

Since Richard Dawkins (AFAIK) isn't mentioned in the Bible, they probably never heard of him and would assume your were speaking in tongues. To which you would no doubt receive an Amen.

But he's mentioned in books like "The Dawkins Delusion". And I have a feeling that many Christians have read such books even if they haven't read "The God Delusion".

Well, I have a sister who is a christian fundy/ cult follower and she fairly bristles at the very mention of Dawkins' name. Of course, I mention it to my niece and nephew as often as possible which angers her to no end. She forbids them to read anything by him. It is quite funny and I am pretty sure my niece has already read Dawkins because she gets a knowing smirk on her face everytime the subject comes up.

Funny thing is, my sister has never read anything by Dawkins but she has "been told" what he is all about. :D

Sadly, what most religious people would ever know about Dawkins and his work is what they have "been told" by others.

Just out of curiosity, may I ask how old your niece and nephew are?
