Despicable.

Yup, nothing fails like prayer
ETA: What I find really despicable about this particular point is that some Senator (I forget who) actually asked people to pray for this lunacy, didn't they? Good grief, talk about scraping the bottom of the barrel.

I agree, to be 100% clear, what I find despicable about this is that anyone would suggest or actively pray for someone to die or be otherwise unable to attend their duties and vote. Unbelievable and reprehensible. And further proof that most Christians don't have a clue what their religion even teaches. If there is a God, I'd like to think he wept uncontrollably over such "prayers".

If I had to bet, I'd bet this was a prank call.

What I find funny is................you all fell for it. This is not a real call. It's a phony phone call. Members of the Tea Party do not call themselves "tea baggers" It's a fake.

Are there still teabag-deniers on this forum who don't think its a homo-erotic joke?

Well I'd question the homo and erotic is only limited to certian rather narrow situations.

Did someone actually call for this so called prayer, or not? Even if it is a prank, it was still a pretty despicable thing to suggest people actually pray for. There is a mention of some senator calling for this so called prayer. That's the biggest thing I'm responding to.
And Painter, are you unaware that some of these people do in fact openly embrace the "tea bagger" name? Hey, I've been as vocally against the name as you can be. But I'm not going to sit in denial of the fact that some of them do in fact call themselves Tea Baggers.

Ok, those are also despicable and wrong on every level.
But they are praying for the death of Obama. I'm asking if there was anyone calling for prayers for death of Senator Byrd or not. I don't doubt that they were, I wouldn't have been so quick to judge this despicable if I didn't believe it. I'm just looking for confirmation.

Gaaah! Sorry about that, I was discussing Obama's death prayers last night and had brain freeze.
Ok, it was Sen. Tom Coburn...
At 4 p.m. Sunday afternoon -- nine hours before the 1 a.m. vote that would effectively clinch the legislation's passage -- Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) went to the Senate floor to propose a prayer. "What the American people ought to pray is that somebody can't make the vote tonight," he said. "That's what they ought to pray."
It was difficult to escape the conclusion that Coburn was referring to the 92-year-old, wheelchair-bound Sen. Robert Byrd (D-W.V.) who has been in and out of hospitals and lay at home ailing. It would not be easy for Byrd to get out of bed in the wee hours with deep snow on the ground and ice on the roads -- but without his vote, Democrats wouldn't have the 60 they needed.

Not directly stated, and IMO a thoughtless, very poor choice of words considering Byrd's (or anyone else's) condition.

Thank you Redtail.
Folks I cannot tell you how much it disturbs me to share the same political side of the isle as these people. I cannot say enough bad things about it. I don't want to be accused of just being somewhat "token" angry over something that is obviously and completely indefensible.
I was raised a Christian. I long since gave up any belief in God, or Jesus, or any other mystical gods. At least 25 years ago now. But I do remember the things I was taught, and none of this jives with that in any way.
I was taught all the "good" stuff about religion. Love thy neighbor.. judge not lest ye be judged.. Hate the sin, love the sinner.. All that jazz.
This is beyond reprehensible. I'm disgusted with anyone who wishes death on those they oppose. I'm even more disgusted with anyone who actively follows the Christian faith who could find any means by which to try to justify these prayers. If so, you didn't pay even the remotest attention to what you were being taught.
Those two piece of crap pastors in Redtail's first links.. YOWZA!! They are worthless scum.

I was waiting for 'bababooey! bababooey!' Regardless it would be probably be good idea for these guys to drop the 'teabagger' thing. All idiotic religious fringe death curse rhetoric aside, that's just not a good look.

Thanks Mattus.. and yet I'm not sure I have any capability of doing so. I'm quickly becoming more and more disillusioned with all of politics. Every day I find more things I dislike that my side is doing.. and yet I'm not in any way ready to jump ship either. Oh for a viable third party alternative.. Fiscally conservative, socially progressive.. I could live with that.
Merry Christmas to you friend, and everyone else.

Merry Christmas to you friend, and everyone else.I do remember the days when we (Dems) thought Republicans were wrong - but not evil - that's a long time past - Nixon, Newt, the whole get the religious right on board thing started it. They brought religion into a place it has - and should have- no place in. And a not American style of religion at that. I know there are still Republicans out there who hold to what the party was - (some are even very good friends - we just do not discuss politics much). But mostly now it's Republickers and religious nuts. And have a Happy New year!:)
