Story (http://www.newswise.com/articles/view/502510/?sc=wire) Researchers in New Zealand examined the effect of car colour on the risk of a serious injury in over 1,000 drivers who took part in the Auckland car crash injury study between 1998 and 1999.

Factors that could affect the results, such as age and sex of driver, seat belt use, vehicle age, and road conditions, were taken into account.

They found a significant reduction (about 50%) in the risk of serious injury in silver cars compared with white cars.Full Paper (http://bmj.bmjjournals.com/cgi/content/full/327/7429/1455)

Big expensive motors with air bags, ABS and lots of other safety features are very often silver.

People who buy boring coloured cars tend to drive in a boring (ie safe) manner.

In the multivariable analysis, we assessed the effect of the following potential confounders: age of driver, sex, educational level, ethnicity, alcohol consumption (in previous six hours), use of recreational drugs, seat-belt use, average time spent driving each week, vehicle speed, vehicle age, engine size, registration, warrant of fitness and vehicle insurance, driving licence status, road type, weather, and ambient light conditions (day, night, twilight). Confounders were included in the final model if they resulted in a change in the odds ratio of more than 5% and had no more than 5% missing data.5

Maybe someone could see if I missed something, but I do not see ' vehicle weight ' or manufacturer in this list... Wouldn't that be a significant omission?

I think mummymonkey is on to something.. I see a lot of silver Mercedes, BMW's and Volvo's lurking here...

So, how long does anyone think it will be before government safety regulations start enforcing safe colors?

Silver is the most popular choice in the USA so I would not be surprised if people notice those cars more than others especially after reading this.
