I am reading now in egullet (http://forums.egullet.com/index.php?) that Ducasse and Maccioni have worked on the menu at Picasso.
Have you been in any of those Roger? I am interested in something hot and not French... I am not going to Vegas to taste French kitchen.

Sorry for the egregious oversite. Here is a link with some customer reviews of this fine establishment.

Cleo, only Hyakumi. I copied that list from an email my ex girlfriend put together when we were planning a trip out there.
OTOH, she has eaten at many of those places, and could probably give some feedback. But I suppose MoeFaux or one of the other NV residents will be piping up soon.
edited to add: I take that back, have been to Lutece. It's french, and I can't remember what I ate, so you do the math on that one.

Thank you very much Roger.
Dinning in Las Vegas is really cheap. In Athens with 30$ you don't eat anything decent or fancy.
Do you think that in a LV restaurant I will be able to wear my feathered sandals or people are getting dressed simply?
Are there any cabarets in Vegas? Where is Moe when you need her?

I can't imagine those in a fine restaurant, but I am no fashion maven. The top end restaurants are _really_ top end. You won't get far with $30. Dinner for two, before wine, can be over $100 easy, much more sometimes. It'd be easy to drop 300+ at Hyakumi for dinner for two, for example.

These are Athens rates which confirms my theory about Athens, very expensive city. But roger Japanese food is expensive everywhere.

Sure, and I was quotes prices for Kobe beef. But Le Cirque, for example, has appetizers at $20-35, and main course hover in the $40 range (based on a google search).
I'm no Vegas food expert, so I will step out of this discussion, but the prices at the best restaurants seem to be in line with some of the best restaurants in NYC, DC, CA - in line with "Inn at Little Washington" & "French Laundry" prices in some cases.

Any chance of visiting White Castle? Or Popeye's? I miss that....
(This, from someone who chooses the wine before the food...OK, so I'm a perv...at times! :D)

As I said before, the place to ask these questions is
http://www.chowhound.com/southwest/boards/southwest/southwest.html
Chowhand is THE board to discuss places to eat in Vegas. Chowhounds in LA never steer me wrong. Sadly, the Las Vegas board also covers some other cities. Based on reading this board I already have a list of places I must eat at when I am in Vegas, which I am keeping to myself...hahahaha!! If you ask them questions, make sure to indicate your preferences and price range- one problems with the chows is that unless specified, they think your budget is unlimited, and recommend the most expensive place.
In the meanwhile, I recommend you just read the board for now, because most things have been answered.
By the way, did you know Vegas has the best Thai restaurant in the US (which is also very affordable)? I plan to live there, and I already have a list of items I am going to order. Me, insane??? Why do you ask? I am not revealing the name! The only way I will get company is if I keep that kind of information secret and make people follow me wherever I go....

There are no White Castles out this far west, they are mostly in the east and midwest.
There used to be a Popeye's in Reno so I wouldn't be surprised if there was one in Vegas too. I don't know for sure though.

You like White Castle, ewwwwwww.
I tried White Castle for the first time when I was in Indianapolis during the summer. All I can say is blech, I don't see why people swear that they are such a great burger.

We have Popeyes. The closest ones to The Tuscany are about 4-5 miles away: 6111 Sahara & 8132 S. Las Vegas Blvd.

Yay!! A man after my own heart. When I'm ordering wine, I don't give a rat's patooty what I'm going to be eating. If I feel like having a nice red zin, then that's what I have damnit!
Are there any In-N-Out Burgers in Vegas? WAY better than White Castle. We can bring burgers back to the hotel and open up some of the nice wine I'm bringing. :D

There are certainly In-N-Out Burgers in Vegas. Best fast food burgers- ever. I had a friend take 20 of them to New York in a cooler packed with ice, and every time I fly out, he begs for them....

I kid you not.

There are (or used to be) Krispy Kreme outlets in the Venetian.
Also, the steak-frites place in the Paris (is it called "Mon Ami Gaby"?) is really, really, really good.

Someone at work told me that New Orleans is supposed to be great for seafood.
What is New Orleans? Restaurant or casino or both? I have no idea. Anyone heard of it? Since my man hates seafood, I'd need to find someone else to go with me. :fg:

Who said anything about it being a great burger? I hate the thing, I think it is so disgusting that I simply crave one from time to time....all that haute cuisine, you know...it wears you down! ;)

Mixed emotions here: I appreciate you preferring wine over food, but, when/if in my company, do not order a "nice red zin". I repeat: Do not order a "nice red zin".
We will order wine based on country, region, classification and year, not just based on grape.

In-N-Out Burgers - I just don't get it. I have had much better burgers. I am not saying that they are bad, they are a decent burger, but most restaurants have much better, and a few fast food places have much better.
