Anyone here interested in seeing the Blue Man Group? They are at the Luxor hotel in Vegas. (Tickets are very pricey though... $93). See: http://www.blueman.com/ticketinfo/lasvegas.shtml
Been searching some of the Vegas tourism web sites. http://www.lasvegas.com has a good list of attractions (both free and pay). King Tut's tomb (a recreation, not the real thing), Shark Reef, the Tropicanna bird show and the Flamingo Wildlife habitat all seem to be interesting and either low cost, or free.

I'd recommend The Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay. It's very cool.

I would love to see Blue Man Group, but really can't afford it.

Superexpensive but VERY worth it is "O" at Bellagio.
If there are tix (they sometimes have some returns, even when it's sold out).
The Blue Man Group in Vegas is good, but if you live in a city with a Blue Man Troupe, I'd go to your local show instead of the Vegas one because the BMG thing is even better in a smaller theater.
Don't forget the Pirate Battle at Treasure Island, the volcano eruptions at the Mirage, and the ejaculating fountains at the Bellagio. I have been known to spend hours traipsing up and down the Strip from one to the other. Free entertainment and great people-watching.

- I *really* wanted to see the Blue Man Group, but $93 bucks is just too expensive.
- If I win, like, $100 in nickels during my first ten minutes at the slots, then I'll go.

The pirate battle show has changed. I haven't seen it since the change but apparently it is less about a pirate battle and more about scantily clad girlies. A few friends reported it's not as good but, they were women and wanted more of the hunky pirates. The guys out there will probably like the show better now.

Hey, was in Vegas last week and saw both BMG and Penn and Teller. P&T ain't cheap either, normal fee is $74 for their act at the Rio.
Highly recommend BMG, but I like percussion and offbeat acts, and this qualifies. If you love STOMP, then you'll probably enjoy BMG.
In Vegas, you get what you pay for, and the big names cost big bucks--but WTH, it's Vegas, so go ahead and spend!! GBG

I'm in Canada... The only Blue Man Group we have here are the homeless people who get stuck outside in our -30 degree weather in winter.

I had heard about the Pirate battle, but haven't found out where its held. Any idea?
A few other free things to do are:
- Freemont street (some sort of indoor light shows at night)
- The M&M experience

I'm sure if you wanted to kiss some bald-headed blue guys, there will be a line up of male attendies all looking to shave their heads and dip themselves in paint.

That reminds me of the time when I kissed one particular semi-famous bald-headed guy whose name graces this forum...

Well I saw the new "Sirens of TI" pirate show outside the treasure island a few months ago and thought it was rubbish. The old one was much better.
I suppose if you are right up close you might enjoy the scantily clad female pirates, but there is not as much action or explosions as the old show.
Tom Jones will be in Vegas next weekend so he will not be Unusual I am sure.
I live in the desert about 3.5 hours south of Vegas, so I am driving up for the meeting, see you there - Aaron

They CHANGED THE PIRATE BATTLE?!?!?
This may make me hate Vegas forever.
And I had just memorized the tape-recorded dialogue, too. "The only thing we'll receive from you is your stores, valuables and whatever rum ye might have onboard, you son of a foot-herder's goat!"
Apparently the new one has songs and dances, too. Sweet Baal, aren't there enough songs and dances (not to mention scantily-clad hotties and hunks) elsewhere in Vegas?
Another example of Steve Wynn's weird tin ear for popular culture. He closed the pirate battle for revamping a month before Pirates of the Caribbean opened to huge international box office.

Maybe this is off-topic, but I went to the CES on Saturday and saw Penn & Teller at the Rio. It was worth every cent (all 7,700 of them).
Teller's incredible shadow puppets, the bunny and wood chipper, and the Magic Bullet trick . . . oh, baby, it was awesome.
Then I saw Penn after the show and told him that it was good, and he said "thanks, boss."
Oh, yeah.

That is a very kissable head. :D I love bald men. I think Randi would look hot if he shaved it all off and maybe got a piercing.
:D
And the Blue Man Group. Wow. I would gladly pay the 100 bucks to see their show. Shiny blue bald men....
I would also love to see Penn and Teller. I saw Penn on the travel channel the other day. He was giving a tour of his house! He seems like a real nice guy. A real big, real nice guy.
I am so jealous of all of you. I would love to attend and meet all of you. It sounds like it is going to be a TAM to remember. :) Please take video and pictures and I will gladly host a scrapbook online!
Are there any webcams on the Vegas streets that all you lucky skeptics can gather in front of and wave to us at home? My daughters have one in their hometown and occasionally go stand in front of it while chatting to me on the phone.

Even if your not a big fan (and I must admit I'm not), a visit to the Liberace museum will not soon be forgotten!

I would suggest a trip to the observation deck in the Stratosphere. The view is unparalleled. There is a charge to go up (it's been a while; I can't remember how much) and it's extra to go on the rides. The roller coaster is kind of sucky, but the Big Shot ride is well worth it.

If you are looking to play some "tournament" style Hold 'em poker, like on TV, go to the Mirage, there is a 7 pm tourny ($120 buy in) on Thursday, and one on Sunday at 5 pm ($120 buy in). Other times as well.
For low limit players, your best bet is at the Excalibur and Palace Station ($2-6), and Stardust and Mirage ($3-6).

For those of us unable to show, I second the request for a webcam...and make it a time when us'n's on the east coast can be watching...I'd love a screen capture or three of a bunch of loonies waving signs reading JREF and TAM2...
For TAM3, someone do some scouting...isn't there a gambling hall out there where they cater to the beginners? Like, the whole place is nickel/dime/pennies? I've heard rumor of such a place. That one sounds like a natural for a late-night-Skeptics-poker-blackjack-craps-roulette party...

Cheapest table games are at either the Westward Ho or Slots Of Fun area near Circus Circus on the south strip or at some of the sleezy downtown places like El Cortez, Golden Spike and the Western.
Everyplace seems to have those damn penny video slots now if you like those.
Share and Enjoy - Aaron

I remember staying at the Westward Ho in '85 on vacation out there...decent place, and the room prices were phenomenal for the day...
