Cold Stress Contributes To Record Number Manatee Deaths (http://www.wesh.com/news/22148843/detail.html) (WESH-TV Florida, January 6, 2010)
"biologists documented a record high of 56 cold stress-related deaths in 2009, more than double the five-year average."

Do Global Warming Proponents Want the Manatee to Die? Because clearly increasing the cooling (http://forums.randi.org/showthread.php?t=163890) will kill them off.

SAVE THE MANATEE SUPPORT INCREASED CARBON EMISSIONS!!!

If the red fonts don't work Poptech, try green. And double the point size, that also helps.

A demonstration of your ignorance PopTech.
The local temperatures around Florida during a couple of years are not the global temperatures.

Actually you are on both points :eye-poppi!

A quick Google shows that the Gulf Stream has been reported as slowing down (http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2005/dec/01/science.climatechange) and there is speculation that it may shutdown (http://environment.about.com/od/globalwarmingandweather/a/gulf_stream.htm). The cause of this could be increased runoff from the Greenland icecaps. The cause of that could be global warming.
Whatever the cause. the consequences of the Gulf Stream slowing down is that it will get cooler as colder waters have more time to mix with it. So the waters around Florida get cooler and manatee die.

The Gulf Stream shutting down has been debunked,

Gulf Stream safe if wind blows and Earth turns (http://www.nature.com/nature/journal/v428/n6983/full/428601c.html)

So what?
It has been measured as slowing down and that effects the manatee.

(Poptech: The ony good manatee is a dead manatee !)

ETA:
Your link is not a debunking of the shutdown.
I do not have access to the full text of your link but I can see that it is Nature's Correspondence section, i.e. a letter not a paper. So it is probably the personal opinion of the author. If it is not then you need to cite the publicly accessible papers referenced in the letter.

About 15 miles from where I live we have a ******** of manatees hanging around the power plant to keep warm, only because we are having some cold weather here. Has nothing to do with global warming, it is just cold here right now. It happens.

I note the date on that is nearly six years old. Any updates? Any new data on that which might change the analysis?

Blatant troll is blatant.

Out of curiousity...

Is there a name for the logical fallacy here?

Claiming that a taking action against current process has a direct and devastating affect on one thing (ignoring the non-sequitur of coming to the conclusion that the attempts to mediate the current process result in said affect), and therefore the action being undertaken is wrong?

Apologies for the clumsy wording.

I'm normally polite with climate deniers, but this might be the stupidest post I've ever seen. I'm dumbfounded.

+1 die sea cows, die.

(But actually, no. If at all possible I would like to join in on a warm water manatee cuddle-puddle. They are big fat blobs and are probably nice to hug.)

If anyone here ever doubted that Poptech is just playing games, here is your proof. He doesn't believe what he's saying, he just wants to get a rise out of people.

If he every tries to play serious about his AGW denial, be sure to link back to to this thread. He's just posting random stuff to get attention.

Nope, I am dead serious. I cannot understand why global warming proponents want the manatee to die? Do they have no emotions?

And the nice thing is with all the warming all you have to do to cook them is just leave them out in the sun for a couple of hours.;)

When manatees are in cold water, they put on a little more fat, which IMHO makes the steaks tastier.

I also cannot understand why PopTech is so ignorant. It is global warming that is killing the manatee:

I think we need a poll: we need to know how many people prefer manatees to polar bears: cos you can't have both !!

No, we don't want the manatee to die. But, I think a comprehensive solution can both keep the manatees and allow us to maintain a sustainable range of climates on the planet.

Poptech is obviously just trolling.

But I still have a question for him:

How is acceptance of global warming responsible for killing manatees?
Are you suggesting that global warming proponents are directly responsible for the cooling of Florida waters? That's idiotic...

I think we need a poll: we need to know how many people prefer manatees to polar bears: cos you can't have both !!

In that case, sorry manatees, but you'll have to go.

But there is nothing wrong with the climate.

Um. Then what's killing the manatees?

And what's a "global warming proponent", anyway? I didn't know there were people out there who actually want global warming to occur. What are they doing to speed global warming along?

But there is nothing wrong with the climate.Except that living conditions could become more and more disrupted as the climate changes over time.

(Especially since it generally goes in the direction of heating up over time, a trend that seems to have accelerated due to human activities that, among other things, thickened the atmosphere.)

But, I suppose it might depend on how you define "wrong".
