Jason is actually going to be the a/v guy, from what I can tell. I'll make sure to check whether the audio feed for the DVDs can come directly from the microphones on the desk, rather than from mikes in the auditorium picking up the ambient sound from the speakers that the desk mikes feed into.

I'm planning to visit Canberra and Melbourne with a friend from Melbourne before TAM AU. I'll be in Australia for the week after TAM and will want to see Sydney and maybe take a trip to see something other than a city.

Well, there is plenty of countryside and small towns to visit in between Sydney and Canberra if you hire a car and drive.

Are you flying from the USA? I saw last week that V Australia were having a sale on flights to Australia during November. I'm unsure what the average price for such a trip would normally be, but it looked like a pretty good price to me. About $1000 US return from the west coast.

I booked yesterday. I used a Southwest Rapid Rewards voucher to get to Los Angeles for US$2.50, and after checking several booking sites, the best price I found for my other legs (LAX->CBR, MEL->SYD, SYD->BOS) was via Orbitz on Qantas and United for US$1675.

I did find one problem. Many sites have a button where they'll send your flight information to other sites to compare prices. It did not work with a multi-city itinerary. Instead of a trip like this:
Monday A->B
Wednesday C->D
Friday D->A

The "compare other sites" results were for a simple round-trip itinerary,
Monday A->B
Wednesday B->A

Check the results carefully if you use a feature like this.

I need to figure out my itinerary and what I want to see and do. I'm thinking Melbourne & Sydney, at the very least.I'm going to have fun planning what to see too. I suspect we'll have threads about it here as it gets closer. There are some events posted at http://www.meetup.com/TAMAustralia/ . The bridge climb looks interesting and I've never done anything like it before.

It was very nice of the Australian Skeptics to schedule TAM Australia near the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday.:p I've wanted to visit Australia for years, and a TAM plus those two extra days made it irresistible.

Unfortunately I was up 'til 3AM for work and was all but falling asleep during the panels yesterday. :(

I originally had a week off scheduled before and after TAM, but that somehow mutated into doing a week of work during TAM. Bleh.

Still, very happy - got to talk to Rebecca, Jay and Steve from SGU and attend most of the sessions and meet a bunch of people and buy some neat shirts and books and stuff.
