View Full Version : TAM 8 - hotel room sharing?

So, yeah, I'm new to this board, but I'm a long-time member of the skeptical scene... I'm planning on going to TAM 8 (coming from Eugene, Oregon). I've never been, mainly due to cost, but I think I can swing it this year...

However, is anyone willing to do a room share, or anything? Anyway, I'm laid-back. If anyone's interested, PM and we can go through an "interview" or what have you. :)

Hi Dan, welcome to the forum. Good to hear you're coming to TAM8. You'll love it.

I booked my room a few days ago. I got one with two beds in it. If you or anyone else would like to bunk up, that'd be good for me. Right now I'm booked from Monday to Monday.

Last year, I spent about 4 hours a night in my room. The rest of the time I was at the conference, bar, around town, etc. I expect to be doing the same thing this year.

Looking for a smoking room, and it's just me, a female. PM me if you have room for me, please.

I'm looking at Wednesday night through Sunday night, with a Monday early pm departure.

Actually, I made a deal with hubby. I'm going to quit smoking and use that money for my flight! Still, smoking room or non is fine with me!

Yay! I think I'm going to TAM8!

I won't need to share a room after all! Hubby wants to attend the conference this year!

I, too need a roommate for TAM. Need to cut costs to make this thing happen. PM me if interested. Non-smoking please. Other than that, very laid-back. Probably won't spend much time in the room. Also, I am an RN, so if you get blood alcohol poisoning or beat up by a stripclub bouncer, I can help. Thanks.

I am also in need of a roommate at TAM 8. PM me if interested, non-smoker.

I'll probably be looking for someone to room with too. Arriving late Monday night (the 5th), and departing on Tuesday morning the 13th. I roomed with Xenxabar last year, but we may have even less overlap than last year with our duration of stay.

I'm pretty close to actually booking things, and if I do, I'll be looking for a room-share. I'm currently thinking of arriving on the Tuesday, and leaving the following Tuesday.

Dear everyone:

It would probably be helpful if you could identify yourself as male or female when posting roommate requests.

Also male, non-smoker. Would be much easier to afford TAM if I had a roommate.

I have a spot up for grabs. I'm male, 24, & don't smoke. Now taking offers :)

Out of courtesy to people still looking for a roommate, I'm just posting this to inform you that I'll be rooming with Xenxabar again this year and thus no longer looking for a roomie.

I'm looking for someone to share a hotel room with as well. I'm male, 27 and non-smoker. Oh and I'm planning on getting there on the 7th and leaving on the 11th.

I'm Steve Bauer from Portland, Oregon -- was a speaker at last year's event. Will be there again this year, but just as a plain ordinary guy. Non-smoking, non-drinking, looking to get or share a room with one or more males of reasonable temperament. Can either book it and be the go-to guy with respect to dividing up the bill, or can sign on with you. Have never missed a TAM, and I think all my former roomies had no problems with me, nor I with them.
You can reply to this message, e-mail me at steveb@e-z.net, or phone me 503-246-9520.

Okay, here's the deal. There is a half off sale at the Southpoint today. I can either book two queen sized or one king bedroom for 217.00. Note that this would be a smoking room (even though I am trying to stop) and I am told that I snore. (But not always.) The sale is just for today so If anyone wants to share the room with me, I will get the two bed room. I will only wait for a few hours, because I don't want to lose out on the deal.

I will be booking from the 8th and departing on the 12th. I'm going on something less than a shoe string budget so everything helps...

You can reach me at: david_gluck@skepticfriends.org if you are interested.

Okay. What I did was to go ahead and book a two bed room. So you don't have to get back to me within a few hours. If you are interested in sharing, let me know...

I can vouch for BriansAWildDowner, I know him in real life and he's a good guy! If I didn't already have plans to share a room, I'd scoop him up!

Steve Bauer here -- I have booked a room at Southpoint with one other nonsmoking and well-behaved male from July 7th through July 11th. We do not mind sharing a bed or floor with one or two other nonsmoking and well-behaved males. I don't either of us is a prude, but neither of us wants to have our TAM8 experience take a turn for the worse because of roommate troubles. We're looking to have good times, even great times, but not wild times that end up with arguments, room damage, arrests, and/or hard feelings. So post a reply to me here, or e-mail me at steveb@e-z.net, and we'd love to have one or two other folks aboard to help pay for the room and enjoy a superb time at TAM8!! SB, Portland, Oregon

I have a double queen room and could use a roommate for the other one. I'm female nonsmoker, and booked from Tuesday to Monday. I got in on the half price sale, so compensation would be cheap.

I've still got a bed in my room. Male, 24, non-smoker. Booked Monday to Monday. Drop me a line if you're interested.

I am newer than new, and have been dragging my heels to register, but am tentatively looking for a roommate. I'm a 27 yo F non-smoker, and not sure how much time I can get off but it'll probably be Thurs-Sun. I really want to go to TAM, but I am so new to all this that I'm apprehensive about booking everything and going by myself! But it seems like such an awesome time...I don't want to wait till next year.

Welcome to the forum and to TAM! You've got nothing to fear. Get to the Southpoint whenever you can, come to the Del Mar bar, let the first person you see know that you're there for TAM and I guarantee you'll make friends. More formally, on Thursday you'll be able to register, take workshops if you've signed up for them, come to the JREF Reception at 6, then check out Drinking Skeptically at TAM 8 in the Silverado Lounge at 9. And of course the Del Mar is ours anytime--we pretty much take it over for the duration. You'll love it and wonder why you've waited so long to come to TAM.

Don't be shy. Go where Brian said, and say to the first person that walks in "I'm new and know no one" and you will have a bunch of friends in minutes. When it gets closer you can join up with the TAM8 twitter feed. You will find places to hang out just by reading the twitters, you can even twitter a request saying, "help, I don't know anyone, wearing a hot red t-shirt in (insert name of place you will be in and time) I will buy a drink for the first person that tells me (come up with something funny to say) and you will make instant friends (esp if you are buying, trust me it will probably be the last drink you buy all the time you are there).

The forum will also have a activities list here soon, if it isn't already started.

People are going to be dying to meet you, just like you will to meet them. If you are on facebook you can start meeting people already. Also I would start working on getting enough posts so you can have an avitar here. There will be another link soon where they will print out your avitar and you can put it on your badge so people will know you in the forum.

Wear bright colors, or something funny, just gives an excuse for people to come up to you and talk.

I will be the one holding a camera in one hand, a video recorder in the other, and the first one to post pictures! HA HA

My son will be the one carrying around a pig with wings, this will be his 4th TAM and he is easy to talk to if y

And I'll be the one taking pictures with sgf's camera, so that some of the pictures will have her in it...

The pictures I take with my own camera, however, won't make it to online until sometime around the end of the year, probably. Although, now that I own my adorable tiny little purple netbook, maybe I'll join the sit-in-the-bar-and-upload-pictures-every-night club.

Oh man oh man oh man oh man oh man!!!!

Go where Brian said, and say to the first person that walks in "I'm new and know no one" and you will have a bunch of friends in minutes.KittyNH will also be running the Forum Table, and if you really want to advertise your "newness", she will have a bunch of free "First TAMmer" buttons.

Hint to TAM oldsters: if you see someone wearing that button, go up and talk to them.

haha, ok, i am registered now and am realizing what a good idea this is.

oh, don't worry, i've got the bright colors down!

and i just booked a double queen room, it was less expensive than i was expecting. that is the point of having it at this south point place right, it's more affordable as far as vegas goes? well, i don't mind having the whole thing to myself, but if there's a non-smoking girl who still needs a roommate drop me a line.

though, i might be talking my boyfriend into coming, heh, spent dinner this weekend explaining the whole skeptical thing to him.

Brian and I are splitting a room, and we did get a great deal thanks to discount information posted in this thread. We would not mind taking on someone else -- we will be there from Wednesday to Sunday, so four nights in all, and we paid $213, so if you bunk with us, you pay $71, or LESS than $18 per night! We've only met online, but we think we're a good match for each other, and as long as you're reasonably well-behaved, we'd like to share a room (and the bill for the room!) with you. You can write steveb @ e hyphen z dot net.

Well we seem to have an embarrassment of riches here. So many rooms. I'll offer once more for a male non-smoker under 30 yrs old to bunk in my room. I had a few folks express interest earlier but didn't answer a hard yes. I got the discounted rate too.

I need to room with someone - I prefer a girl. I'm pretty much the same kind of person in person as I am online. Message me if you still need a roommate.
