He likely had taken his Cipro pills before he mailed the letters then headed back to Israel.

On the one hand, the new suspect killed himself. On the other, the old suspect was harangued for six years and had his professional career and good name trashed.

The FBI got what they wanted with Ivins. They tried to push Hatfill into suicide but failed. They knew it was the only way they could end the investigation.
