link includes the video which may not be safe for work.

Two teachers are in hot water after their videotaped pep rally dance routine proved too spirited for school officials.

Taken last week at a Winnipeg, Canada high school's pep rally, a video shows a male teacher giving a female teacher a lap dance, with bumping and grinding - and that's making parents and students cringe.

One more for the what-were-they-thinking book.

At first, it is inappropriate and over the line but still within shenanagins territory. After about two seconds he is in her lap and this is clearly in a death spiral of WTF??? Sure, we are all horny but :rule10damn you are supposed to be professionals entrusted with children (teenagers)! This might ruin their careers as teaching professionals.

At least it was two teachers and not a teacher and a student.

I can definitely see how it wasn't a smart decision (because of the reaction they got), but I see absolutely nothing wrong with this. Bunch of prudes.

ANyone dumb enough to do something like that in that setting should not be teaching kids anyway.

There is a time and a place for everything, and that place is college. This was a high school. Cultural norms expect teachers to show a certain level of decorum in regard to sexuality in front of their charges. If these were college teachers or they were performing this in their private lives this would not be an issue. Ultimately I think the act in and of itself is fairly harmless and untraumatic to the witnessing high schoolers, who most likely witness much worse at school from their peers, but it is a blatant lack of discretion on the teachers part that shows an unacceptable level of responsibility in their professional lives. In other words, they need to show much better self restraint in that setting.

Its not like the Canadians are French or anything. :p

Disciplinary action is certainly in order, but keep in mind these two are barely older then the students themselves. Saying they should never teach again because of one tasteless, but basically harmless mistake is way over the top.

Note that this occurred during a pep rally, where ridiculous costumes, dancing, etc. was the norm. What makes incidents like this possible is that the usual expectation of decorum was already eschewed by the environment.
In context, the incident seems quite harmless.

Yes, I remember high school pep rallies. Quite a bit of sexual charge to those. Teachers that cannot control themselves in that sea of energy should probably not directly participate. Being intoxicated by the adrenaline and moment is not an excuse for a teacher, that is an excuse for a student.

The lines on what is acceptable may at times be arbitrary. That is unfortunate. We have decided to segregate the sexuality of adolescents and adults, which unfairly catches up those young adults who are in practice not that dissimilar from older adolescents. This is a pretty big error in judgement in that it ignored these lines. It is not sexual misconduct, it is not traumatizing, but it does harm the boundary separating the sexual lives of high school students and their teachers.

It is a pretty major flub in that it could very much harm their career. I would personally forgive them this single incident but it is not a great mark to have.

Hi there. :vk: I have actually been inside the very school where this incident happened, and worked for Winnipeg School Division for a few years. *shudder* *twitch*

I realize that times are substantially different from when I was a high school student, but even after factoring in 36 years of social change I just can't comprehend the teachers' lack of judgment in this situation. I don't know if WSD will fire them, but knowing the Division I'd lay odds of 3:2 in favour of a firing.

When I read the title I assumed it was a female teacher giving a lap dance to a male student, which couldn't possibly be true, since things like that only happen in Florida.

This.

They looked pretty stupid in that video, but this didn't deserve to make the news, and they didn't deserve to get suspended without pay. If they're even a little embarrassed about it, that's punishment enough.

'kay, first as a Winnipeger I'm getting a kick out of these responses.

Second, It's Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

Third, I would expect a level of professionalism from young educators that would prevent this kind of ass-hat-ery, but as for the calls of "won't somebody think if the chid'rins!!" spare us all will ya'. Besides, these are Churchill kids they probally did this for real in the parking lot last Tuesday...filthy McNasties.

Fourth, GO BULLDOGS.

I deny that his head being in the general vicinity of her crotch for a half second constitutes "simulating oral sex".

It's not that children are ignorant of such things, it's that teachers are supposed to act like professionals, particularly at the school which employs them.

How would such behavior go over in your office?

Do you think he was looking for a contact lens or something?

Why do you think that bit got such a strong reaction from the audience?

Wasn't the most professional behavior, but they were gym teachers. In my experience a lot less is expected of gym teachers.

At Bowling Green HS in VA, the coach was the math instructor also.
Good at both jobs.
The coach in college.. typical sports-jock mentality. Couldn't teach nuthin' to no one what had no interest in sports... except a life-long continuing disinterest in sports.
I found out many years later I cheated myself by the problems I had with the sports-jock types. Had I actually done any athletics, I might have had a better life, fitness wise.

I thought it was also a middle school, at any rate it's irrelevant. This would get you fired at most companies if you did this at an office party in front of adults.

Oh, and anyone who doesn't think there was simulated oral sex this video shows it clearer: http://www.montrealgazette.com/Second+video+emerges+dancing+Winnipeg+teachers/2612793/story.html

Honestly this story gets a solid "meh" from me.

"Babinsky said the man and woman "just got carried away," though he insisted there's no excuse for acting that way around students.

"One student sticks his head in front of the camera and says, 'Now, that's just plain wrong,'" he said of the video.

"As a parent, you at least have control of what your kids watch at home. When you send your kids to school, you're hoping your teachers will set a better example for them. If this had happened in a public area, people could have been charged for the act that was done."

Oh no, it was unprofessional, I thought I made that much clear. They should be held accountable for being unprofessional. I just can't suffer the idea that some damage was done to all these precious snowflakes in attendance.

Now I'm just AWing with the Fark memes.

Ahhh memories. I remember doing a skit at a pep rally. After I finished my performance I convinced a teacher I needed this girl to help me with my costume. I took her up to the guys changing room, she helped me out of my costume and we ended up doing it on the floor. The entire school was no more than 100 feet away screaming and cheering. I guess the teacher figures it was OK because there were so many people so close. It only made it that much hotter.

Pep rallies are supposed to get you riled up.

Our pep rallies were more like the one in Fast Times at Ridgemont High. No one cared except for the jocks and cheerleaders.
