I can't stand Randy Thomasson. (http://savecalifornia.com/blog/?p=984) I think the man is scummy. But this latest little bit puts him over the top.

For all these reasons combined, Ashburn must go:

• He swore to uphold the law, then broke the law and endangered others by driving drunk.
• He vowed to be faithful to his wife, then broke his vows when he chose homosexuality over his marriage.
• He signed the Taxpayer Protection Pledge, then broke his pledge in 2009 when he voted in favor of the biggest tax increase in state history.
• He repeatedly lied to people who asked him to honestly tell them whether he was living the homosexual lifestyle.
• Now that he has openly identified with the “LGBT” lifestyle, Ashburn is dramatically out of step with his constituents, has lost their trust, and is in danger of voting against their conservative family values.

All right, one by one.

Driving Drunk? Yup. I'd nail him for it. He should pay the fine, do the time picking up trash along the highway, and in the next election, people should vote him out. Beyond that: Nope.

Cheating on his wife? That's between him and his wife. Not my business.

Taxpayer protection pledge? Vote him out.

Homosexual lifestyle? Again, not my business.

LGBT? Once more, Randy. NONE OF OUR BUSINESS. And claiming it is doesn't change a damned thing. If anything, the fact that he's coming out at all is point in his favor for his courage.

If it were really that big a deal, there's an election coming up. He might not be up for re-election very soon, but he will be. Seems to me if the people of Bakersfield are really that upset about this, they can deal with it appropriately. The rest of the California can simply SHUT UP.

Isn't there a politics section? This is Religion and Philosophy.

There is, but it's a religious nut who's demanding he resign.

Mods? Can we move if appropriate?

I do agree though with the 'wife' part.
Cheating on your partner (whatever your and your partner's sex is) is a private matter yes. I just like to think that my politicians (although I live very far away from California) uphold ALL the vows they make.
Just as I like to know that they obey the law. Aside: Last week we had regional elections here. One potential group lost my vote because I saw their campaign team ignore a red light.

Since when has that ever happened? You can site constant forms from both parties of not holding up their election year rhetoric.

The drunk driving thing is the only one I would be concerned with. Hell do we know if he was cheating on his wife or just getting some man on man action on the side with her permission?

Remember it is better to be thought of as unfaithful than in a clear non monogamous relationship.

True. I don't take sides in this issue, BTW.

I just went by the assumption that he was in a monogamous relationshipwith his wife, and cheated on her.
