Awww. :(

I wonder how Mr. Greenjeans and the dancing bear are doing? The rabbit with the geeky glasses was my favorite tho. :)

Mannnnn....First Mr. Rogers, now Captain Kangaroo.

And yet, proving once again that there is no God, we are still stuck with Barney the Purple dinosaur.

I feel really stupid because I thought he died a long time ago.

Now I'm sad....

For me, it was all about Mr. Moose.

Did anyone ever hear the urban legend that Mr. Greenjeans was Frank Zappa's father?

Who knew that Bob Keeshan spent 5 years as Claribel the clown?

Didn't we already lose Mr. Greenjeans?

Son of Mr. Green Genes on Uncle Meat, right? I dug Mr. Moose too.

There's an urban legend about Keeshan's war record, Lee Marvin's commanding office on Guadalcanal or something like that.

Ah, a link: http://www.truthorfiction.com/rumors/k/keeshan.htm

Jay Leno once said something to Bob Keeshan that echoed my thinking. A few years ago, Keeshan made a brief appearance on Leno's show, and Leno asked him how old he was. Keeshan said he was 70 or something like that, and Leno said something like, "You know, I thought you were that old when you were doing your show!" Keeshan was in his 40s (and perhaps in his 30s) when he did "Captain Kangaroo," but his light-colored hair and mustache made him seem much, much older.

From Captain Kangaroo I learned the power of the celebrity endorsement. The good Captain always promoted Schwinn bicycles ("Prices slightly higher in the West and the South"), and many kids in my neighborhood, including yours truly, wanted a Schwinn bicycle as a result.

The ping-pong ball gag never got old, as far as I was concerned.

(Hmmm, don't seem to remember Casey Jones.)

The origin of the Mr. Greenjeans rumor is shrouded in obscurity, but I note that an instrumental tune on Zappa's 1969 Hot Rats LP is named "Son of Mr. Green Genes." Make of it what you will.

Right, Mr. Green Genes on Uncle Meat, Son of Mr. Green Genes on Hot Rats.

"CK" is the show I remember above all others. From the theme song (and the keys!) to the characters (I always wondered why Bunny Rabbit didn't have a headache), it was a whimsical show with a nice edge (man, Grandfather Clock creeped me out).

R.I.P. Captain.

... That was intentional. Keeshan was intrigued by the special relationship between children and their grandparents, and he wanted to come across as a grandfatherly figure.

That's totally weird. Earlier today I was testing some of my company software, and as a goof, I entered "Captain Kangaroo" in the name field. Clearly I have mystical powers.

The Captain is gone. At least I can still share Mr.Rogers with my kids. I would have loved to have been able to share the Captain with them.

The Captain was where I first saw Shari Lewis and LambChop. It was also one of the first things I remeber watching in color. I wanted to know if Mr GreenJeans really wore green jeans.:)

No, it proves there is a god, because Barney is the anti-christ. Repent! Armageddon is near! :p

My favorite was this guy:

Cap'n Mitch (http://www.planetxmagazine.com/mitch.html)

But I don't think he was nationally syndicated.

And the only time he spoke in that role was during the final Howdy Doody episode.

And what about the rich, detailed animation of Tom Terrific?

I loved Magic Drawing Board...

and ping pong balls, of course. :)

IIRC, Mr Greenjeans was the father of Edgar and Johnny Winter, (twin albino boys) ?
