I think my google and cdc searching skills suck. I've been looking everywhere for a break down of average height (preferably adult males) in each of the 50 US states.

Help please!?!

Your Google must truly suck. Just by typing in "average height" USA I got lots of results. Did you try putting average height in quotes, so Google searches for the whole phrase instead of separate words?

This one says 5.9ft for a man in the USA.

http://www.wonderquest.com/size-women-us.htm
This one says 5'3.7 for women and 5'9.1 for men in the USA.

http://pediatrics.about.com/cs/growthcharts2/f/avg_ht_male.htm
This one says 5'9.2 for men in the USA.

The "average height in the USA" as a whole is not necessarily the same as "average height for each of the 50 states"...

(I couldn't find anything state specific either, by the way)

I got a few hits for "average height by state", but one was an ad for some snake oil product to grow taller, one was intercepted as a "reported attack site", and one was a long PDF document that may or may not have the info. If anyone wants to explore further, go for it! (http://www.google.com/search?source=ig&hl=en&rlz=&=&q=%22average+height+by+state%22&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai=)

Oh, yeah. I got distracted and just looked for average height.

ETA: I can't find anything either. Towlie, that PDF file doesn't have the information. I only took a quick peek at the Google-generated HTML version, but it looks like it's using the word "state" to mean "nation state".

Your best bet may be the NHANES data. It may be simplest to contact them directly. The data may already be put together, but if not, you should be able to request it if it is for research purposes.

Thanks all!

I spent a fair amount of time with NHANES but couldn't find it. I will indeed email them.

Be sure to post here if you find some answers - I'm curious.

Reading the answers I got with a web search, it's amazing the number of people who guess that the average male height is "around six feet". I'm not sure how you could get that impression just walking around.
