The Bottom Line, the Greenwich Village music club that was a launching pad for the likes of Bruce Springsteen and other rock stars, shut its doors on Thursday after almost three decades as a music industry landmark, its lawyer said yesterday.

Will try to find a list of all the musicians that played there. I used to enjoy just reading the ad in the Village Voice and wishing I could be there.

This has been coming for a long time. Apparently, too many people were just reading the ads and not actually going to the club. ;)
At least there's alternatives in NYC. Here in Chicago, we're losing small rock clubs and can't replace them because of a moratorium on new liquor licenses (reason #1 I hate Mayor Daley!). When the legendary club Lounge Ax (http://www.loungeax.com/) lost it's lease in January 2000 it couldn't relocate because of this moratorium. And it's bottom line (excuse the pun!) was in the black. Only way to get a liquor license now in Chicago is to serve >50% food. Assinine requirement for a rock club.
