And you'd better not think we are open to having our minds changed either...Due to the recent onslaught of counterproductive postings by people who have no purpose save arguments, we have determined that only people holding the "rank" of Associate or higher will be allowed to post in this forum.
This is not an attempt to quell discussion, but rather to keep it civil and from a Christian perspective. Again, as posted in our Vision statement...this board is not a public debate forum. This is a community of believers with a goal of learning and building disciples. If you've come only to inject argument on this topic you will now have to participate in the community for a little while first in order to build basic relationships with those who fellowship here.
Thank you for your participation.

Do you know what kind of "arguments" were made to warrant this decision? If they were simply insulting posts from a couple of smart assess, then I agree. I suspect otherwise, though. :p

You know, those boards must be very effective in reforming atheists... just after reading 2-3 posts I found myself shouting "Jesus Christ! WTF ?"

Father in heaven I ask that you be a part of the discussions on this thread. I pray that your truth will be heard and that the demeaner and character of all those involved will remain civil and in love.
In your name we Pray.
Amen.
If god starts posting there, I'm in!

Look at this one:
[...] it was clear that something needed to be done... [...] But for the life of me I couldn't figure out what it might be, short of closing those forums all together.
Again... the course of action you've all taken just proves even further the wisdom and guidance of the leadership here, on a level that could ONLY have come from God.
Well done!
Maybe the young man mentioned on another thread (http://host.randi.org/vbulletin/showthread.php?s=&threadid=34773) who wants to be a public school teacher is selling himself short. Does he need a boss? Maybe he can simply get ten employed disciples each of whom will pay him 10% of his or her income.
Recently, I interviewed with a school in one of the metro Atlanta counties, only to receive an e-mail from the principal stating, "Though your qualifications are quite impressive, I regret to inform you that we have selected another candidate. It was felt that your demeanor and therefore presence in the classroom would serve as an unrealistic expectation as to what high school students could strive to achieve or become. [...]

While I disagree with them, I can't really find a basis for complaint. They publically state in a straightforward manner that the purpose of the board is not public debate...

They are permitted to hold closed-doors discussions, of course.
Before the internet, how did one ever debate such types?
Of course, there are still plenty of debate forums, and there's always RR!
Jeezus, I feel left out. Can we make an a-theists only discussion board?

"The more statistically improbable a thing is, the less we can believe it happened by blind chance. Superficially the obvious alternative to chance is an intelligent Designer" - Dr Richard Dawkins, Oxford University
************************************************** *********
The above is from that sight, under the heading of 'quotes about evolution'.
What a perfect definition of 'out-of-context'.

The above is from that sight, under the heading of 'quotes about evolution'.
What a perfect definition of 'out-of-context'.
For full context, see TalkOrigins.org - An Out of Context Quotation (http://www.talkorigins.org/faqs/ce/3/part7.html):
<blockquote>"The more statistically improbable a thing is, the less can we believe that it just happened by blind chance. Superficially the obvious alternative to chance is an intelligent Designer."
- Dr. Richard Dawkins (Department of Zoology, Oxford University, UK), 'The necessity of Darwinism'. New Scientist, vol. 94, 15 April 1982, P. 130. (The Revised Quote Book, P. 6) </blockquote>
By lifting this brief sentence out of its original context the editors of The Revised Quote Book make it sound like Dawkins is in favor of teaching the instantaneous creation of animals and plants as part of a "two model" approach to "origins." However, any reader paying attention to Dawkins' use of the word, "Superficially," and to the title of Dawkins' article, "The Necessity of Darwinism," must realize that the editors have ignored the context of the quotation. In context, Dawkins wrote:
<blockquote>"The more statistically improbable a thing is, the less can we believe that it just happened by blind chance. Superficially the obvious alternative to chance is an intelligent Designer. But Charles Darwin showed how it is possible for blind physical forces to mimic the effects of conscious design, and, by operating as a cumulative filter of chance variations, to lead eventual to organized and adaptive complexity, to mosquitoes and mammoths, to humans and therefore, indirectly, to books and computers.
"Darwin's theory is now supported by all the available relevant evidence, and its truth is not doubted by any serious modern biologist..."</blockquote>

[alien voice]We do not allow foreign thoughts to spoil the communal purity that is the Christ mind. No more than one thought shall be allowed per century, and let that thought be the same as the century before it. End transmission.[/alien voice]
