I have now been unemployed just over a year and I am thinking of doing teacher training.
Any 'active' teachers here? any hints or is it worth doing?
I will be applying for a UK PGCE in a science based subject area.

Here, it takes a bit of time taking Education courses to teach in state supported secondary schools, unless you have a Master's or Ph.D, at which point you can teach at an U. level without them. If lucky.
The private, usually religious, secondary schools will hire people with Bachelor degrees, but they don't pay a pittance.
I'm sure that the requirements are different in the UK.

What is that? So, my question is, what level? I would advise you to go and ask people who are working at that level.
My advice to you would be to really be honest with yourself as to why you want to teach. Most new teachers go through a "honeymoon" period before reality sets in. I would almost guarantee that your current perceptions and ideas of the job are different from reality.:) I teach science at the high school level. I currently teach in a college prep program but I also have experience with "at-risk" students. If you have questions, fire away.
