My husband and I are signed up for Saturday only. We are bring our 2 year old with us and was wondering if anyone was bringing a child and would be interested in splitting child care.

Just bring the kid to the conference. There' nothing two year olds like better than sitting quietly for hours.

Don't even joke about that, Rusty!

Just to be clear, kids are NOT allowed at the conference. I think the cutoff age is 12, IIRC.

Scrut is joking, of course!

Although no kid attending will ever be as cute as Alexa.

Actually, I'm not.

Are you not going to be offering your daycare services this year?

No, I'm leaving my priests collar at home.

Scrut is right, although the cutoff age is more mental and behavioral than physical.

Yah, like Scott said there is an age cut-off and I also remember it being 12 but I can't find it anywhere.

TAM really isn't a small kid friendly event.

Ahh, found it, it was on the TAM7 registration page: http://www.randi.org/site/index.php/component/content/article/37-static/446-the-amazing-meeting-7-registration.html

"Children under 12 not admitted. Photography and videotaping permitted for personal use only."

are you going to bring a sitter, or use South Point to hire one. I have found that at most larger hotels, staff is willing to babysit though the price can be a bit much. It's like minimum wage. Just relax, Penn Jillette brings HIS kids and they are very young. They don't attend the conference but do come play in the hallway a tad. I would think that if you could find another family with a small child to split the cost with that would be great. Leaving a child that young at home isn't always an option. I would suggest perhaps bringing a local babysitter from home that you trust. I did this a lot as a teenager. I would watch the kids during the day while the parents did stuff and got the evenings off. Made a good bit of money and enjoyed the travel. A local teenager might love a trip to Vegas. Plus South POint isn't right at on the strip, so evenings can be spent bowling or swimming.

In all my years at TAM, I know of only one case where a child caused problems. A couple brought their infant to the sessions, and were asked to take it out of the room after it started to fuss. They kept sneaking the baby in, despite getting caught and being told not to every time. After multiple times, Linda finally gave them a partial refund and took away their badges. There, that's the worst that has ever happened.

A local teenager might love a trip to Vegas. Plus South POint isn't right at on the strip, so evenings can be spent bowling or swimming. And since skepticism doesn't depend of age, they'd be welcome at almost anything going on after-hours. That is, if they don't mind hanging out with older folks who treat them as equals.

Does that mean I can't come, anymore?! I'm only about 8 years old, on the inside. :(

Your posts count as "inside"?

If you are old enough to drive and drink (in that order only) I think you're alright at TAM.

Well, I do tend to drive like an 80 year old, I guess.

I would not trust Scrut for that again. Last year he ran out of duct tape.
