So, with today being the great day of the groundhog, I thought I would pose a fun question.
How accurate has the groundhog been in his prognosticating? This year marks (I believe) the 113th year we have celebrated the Groundhog at Gobbler's Knob. How smart is he?

I'm thinking the groundhog has been most ethical in that it never claimed to have the ability to speak to the dead.

Only slightly off topic...
I cannot understand why the story of a particular groundhog in Pennsylvania makes NEWS every year. Shoot, Yahoo (http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20040202/ap_on_re_us/groundhog_day_7) has a story, CNN (http://www.cnn.com/2004/US/Northeast/02/02/groundhog.day.ap/index.html) has a story, CBS News (http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2004/02/02/national/main597211.shtml) has a story, ABC (USA) News (http://www.abcnews.go.com/wire/US/ap20040202_354.html) has a story, and USA Today (http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2004-02-02-groundhog-day_x.htm) has a story. Note that the source of all of these stories is the AP. Note also that these are (as of this writing) considered to be lead stories, indicating that the event is of some importance.
This annual stunt should not be covered as if it were a newsworthy event. It is NOT "news."
There are literally thousands of towns that hold equally quaint (and often far more interesting) annual events. Why does this groundhog nonsense in Pennsylvania get all the press?

As a Pennsylvanian, I feel qualified to answer this question. Give us a break, we've got nothing else!
