Thanks for the heads up. I'll put this in my diary.

As I said in another thread, this price will turn people off, but I guess I'll be there, provided I can organise a "work" trip to co-incide with it. ;)

I've renewed by membership of the aussie skeptics so I can get in an early order.

Thank you. I've been wondering when the registration would open and it's good to have a date.

in the diary!

Hope I have more "luck" in getting a ticket than I did on my first attempt to join the Canberra sceptics about 20 years ago. Even after a cpl of calls and going to a meeting they still never sent me a membership form - I figured they were even sceptical about membership applicants and just let it slide:D

Thankfully I was able to subscribe to The Skeptic last year, so I am hoping I am on their list to buy tickets early:)

The price is in line with TAM Vegas and TAMLondon. There's been a lot of griping about this on Twitter as well. This seems in line with most conferences that run this long and include meals.

Yeah. The price is quite fair.

Did anyone else think it was a little strange that tickets go onsale on a Sunday?

For those of you stateside, there are some pretty cheap flights available right now to get to Oz during the weeks either side of TAM Oz. Return from LA to Sydney non-stop for around $1000 USD.

I think that's a great idea, since people will be at home rather than at work. Also, it's early enough US time that most people won't be out doing their normal Saturday night thing. People in Europe kind of get screwed however.

Yeah. The bitching on Twitter has been irritating me a bit. I figure let them bitch - they'll get over it soon and they either will pay the price or not.

Although I have to mention a couple of things. Yes, the price is somewhat outside the scope for starving students living in rezzies and eating pot noodles. There's not much that can be done about that.

Second, the cost of a subscription to The Skeptic magazine is extremely reasonable. And it's not a bad mag, either.

Third, public liability insurance is both very expensive and absolutely necessary for an event like this. You just can't run a conference without it.

I suspect that the bitchin' is mostly coming from those with the good fortune of being unencumbered with years.

Thing is, that in the unsubsidized real outdoors, things costs money to run. I wager the organizers are not banking on this event making much bank.
For an event of the scale of this one, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, this is cheap.
Get another paper round, sell the Wii, or just beg, borrow or steal it from Mater and Pater..

I wager the organizers are not banking on this event making much bank.As Sc00ter will attest, one quite prominent member of the Australian skeptical community has opined that he believes that the organisers will make a lot of money off this event.

Should this be correct (which is by no means established) that would be a problem because....?
Does this nameless person suppose that organizations like the Australian skeptics run on sunshine and goodwill alone?

Does this nameless person suppose that organizations like the Australian skeptics run on sunshine and goodwill alone?Said person is not a member of this forum, and as such does not have an opportunity to respond, so it would be inappropriate for me to say more. I probably shouldn't have mentioned it at all.
