well, finally someone is calling the History Channel on it's very unhistoric inaccurate shows.

UFOs and Big Foot, and now the Kennedy conspiracy.

People are upset about Janet Jackson and Justin, but it's tv like this that really is obscene.

I was about to start a thread about this.

The folks who are upset about the History Channel include former Presidents Ford and Carter, and the widow of President Lyndon B. Johnson. A supposed documentary called "The Guilty Men" allegedly accused President Johnson of being involved in the Kennedy assassination.

The movie "JFK" included a similar accusation, but that movie was not a documentary (although a surprising number of people think otherwise).

The History Channel has been taken to task before, for airing a series called "The Men Who Killed Kennedy," which propounded a series of nonsensical and inconsistent "theories" from a variety of crackpots.

Personally, I feel that if you're going to call your network "The History Channel," then you better damn well be sure that you're showing history. If you air crap, then you call all of your credibility into question.

Oh Brown, feel free to start a new thread! Honestly, when the Janet Jackson thread is on page 5....

Plus, I just posted in anger! You are far more articulate.

It really is a damn shame because a true history channel would be a valuable asset.

What really ticks me off is that real history is so damn fascinating that one could never run out of material and yet they keep mining these cheesy subject.

You know, I also was going to start a thread on this subject one of these days. Good thing you did though, this is a good subject that needs to be addressed.

The worst thing about their UFO, Big Foot, etc. programs is they never leave try to disprove the claims seriously. They have ten people sit there and say they have evidence UFOs are out there and then one guy who's wondering why he even needs to be there for rebuttal, saying just how wrong those ten people are. History channel needs to take a cue from the Penn and Teller show and call this stuff what it is, Bulls**t.

I kinda like The History Channel. Some of their programming is lame (UFO's, haunted houses, crop circles etc.). Still, they need the woo-woo demographic to be profitable.

Charlie (the Nostrodamus documentary was especially lame) Monoxide

This History Channel in the UK is like that, I wonder why they don't do the same thing here.

I do, however, like "Modern Marvels".

Update (http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2004/02/12/national/main599905.shtml):The History Channel has asked three historians to review the credibility of a documentary it aired that claimed President Lyndon Johnson was involved in the Kennedy assassination.
...
"Nothing is more important to The History Channel than the integrity of our programming," Dan Davids, executive vice president and general manager, said in a statement. "We take their concerns about historical accuracy and fairness very seriously and are taking appropriate action."
