I am using W2K on my laptop and after starting up the 'My Documents' folder always opens up. It's not in the start-up folder or anything like that. Someone said it was a registry error and re-installing and registry repairs didn't help. It's just plain annoying.

Does the folder open in Explorer view? Is "My Computer" also opening? Is any application opening, like Winword? Did this start after a software installation?

Opens in Explorer view, and I could not tell you if it started after an installation. No other app is opening.

Could you have Explorer set to open in that folder? Right click your explorer icon and select properties. Maybe the shortcut has a switch set.. something like Explorer.exe /....my documents
If the pc is actually opening explorer rather than simply stopping with the deskyop displayed, then there is a shortcut somewhere, either in your startup folder or the registry, which is doing it. You need to locate and edit it.
Does 2000 support MSconfig.exe? It's useful for fixing startup annoyances. Downloadable from M$

Doesn't work in W2K.
I agree, probably something in the registry got screwed up. Don't have the slightest idea how to find out what though.

Not sure exactly what fix you tried with the registry.
It might be worth running Regedit and work down to
HK_Local Machine\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\
Then check for entries under Run, Run Once and Run Services.
(These may not exist on W2K, but there are possibly analogous keys. ) If you find, in the right hand column, a start line for explorer, you could delete it.
BACK UP YOUR REGISTRY first and establish a rollback point, just in case you screw the registry, which is unlikely, but possible.
These "Run" keys should show whatever apps run on startup.

Does your computer run any scripts when it starts? You can check by typing "gpedit.msc" in the run dialog box. If so, then go to "View Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Scripts. "
Double-click Startup, click the appropriate script, and then click Remove if you find a script that is causing the problem.
