Scifiwire's summer TV roundup (http://scifiwire.com/2010/06/sci-fi-summer-tv-preview-heres-the-scoop-on-40-hot-shows.php) almost spills the beans on a disturbing new entry:
Rubicon (AMC) Sunday, Aug. 1, at 8 p.m.
Two-hour series premiere
James Badge Dale and Miranda Richardson star in this thriller about a 9/11 widower and intelligence analyst who discovers a pattern that makes him believe a massive conspiracy is hiding a fourth branch of the government. Rubicon moves to its regular timeslot on Aug. 8 at 9 p.m.
It's difficult to make solid conclusions based on Scifi's barebones descritpion, but this stinks rotten to me.
I got a bad feeling about this. :(

Aww, don't feel so bad. Networks are businesses and when they see there's a lot of interest in a particular subject they're going to produce shows about it.
Besides, by the title this sounds like Michael Ruppert might be involved, and his life could be a TV show, so it might be pretty entertaining.

This just in:
A clip from the new series. We are shown a truther investigating the massive 9/11 conspiracy and getting his ass handed to him at the JREF forum.

Two popular shows on Friday night are Ghost Whisper and The Medium. They are looking for ratings. Anyone who correlates the subject of such TV shows with reality should consider alternative educational methods.

Sorry, "a fourth branch of the government" is the latest hot new topic? Who knew! At least 9/11 Twoof doesn't get a look in, eh?

Shouldn't you be out looking for proof of your belief that New York firefighters were involved in the 9/11 attacks, Red?

Gee, I don't know, man. Depending on which myth they present, I can think of no better home than the channel normally known for science fiction. ;):D

Oh yes, I know. I've complained about that channel (http://forums.randi.org/showthread.php?p=5898264#post5898264) more than once here (http://forums.randi.org/showthread.php?t=177438).

I wonder if they are going to go after the Jews, like so many truthers do.
Antisemitism, it is popular too, hey Red.

I'm wondering if we need to point out to Redibis that sci-fi's Stargate SG-1/Atlantis/Universe are not documentaries?
Someone who believes the FDNY was involved in 9/11 will believe anything. ;)

It will probably have the usual level of quality you expect from a Sci Fy Channel Movie.

This is actually on AMC. It might actually be pretty good. Their original series Breaking Bad and Mad Men are both outstanding.

Ah something we agree on. Mad Men is the best TV show I've seen since The Sopranos. No surprise that the creator of MM was a Sopranos writer.

The entire first episode is available on the AMC website.

The only connection with 9/11 I can see is that the hero, a codebreaker working for a government agency, lost his wife and daughter who were waiting for him in the WTC on that day.
The conspiracy (the details of which will be parceled out in tiny dollops in each episode) seems to involve high level finance, but I doubt I'll be following the show to connect the dots.

I watched the episode and enjoyed it. The story of how his family was killed at the WTC had me scratching my head a bit. They were going to the top of the north tower for the daughter's surprise. I assume it was the north tower because the co-worker said the guy was getting off the subway when the plane hit. He was late, so are we to assume because they are dead they had made their way to the top without him which meant they're escape route was cut off in the attack? At what time was the observation roof open and why didn't they wait for him and make the trip up together? Seems a bit early to be taking a daughter to the top of the tower keeping in mind the time they had to take to get up in the morning, commute there, etc. 9/11 fell on a tuesday so did he and the wife take their daughter out of school for this or was she too young to be in school? Will this factor into the plot at all?

The observation roof was on the South Tower and not accessible at the time of the first impact (8:46 am). I think it normally opened at 9 am. If they are supposed to have gone up the North Tower they would have gone to the Windows On The World restaurant.

Wife swears by Mad Men (didn't get into it although I may make the time investment) and we're definitely fans of Breaking Bad.
Did anyone get into The Prisoner at all? I watched the first episode and didn't bother with the rest of the series. The original spoiled the remake for me. [/derail]

I suppose there's a ready made audience for this kind of tripe. Also, didn't Dylan Avery's Loose Change start life as a short film about a fictional 9/11 conspiracy?
