Okay, it looks like we have a go for the Poker Tournament! I just spoke to Joe D at the South Point, and booked 3 tables. I'm supposed to call again on July 1, to confirm numbers. We can add some later if we need it, but we want a rough estimate so he can schedule dealers. So please indicate your intention to attend here!

The South point is running "Bounty" tournaments these days, and we're adapting that format to our needs. The basic Buy-in is $50, with $15 going to the casino. There's also an extra $5 buy in, which is normally the bounty, that will go to the JREF. With the basic buy-in, you get 3000 chips, and the extra $5 gets you 2000 more, so people will almost certainly go for that option.

We could probably also arrange for extra donations on the side, if people want to give more. Last year the plan was to donate half the prize pool, so we'll see if people are up for that as well.

So, add your name to the list if you plan to play!

If someone wants to play but will be late could they just have their stack blinded till they arrive, and assuming someone else pays for them in advance?

I'm not sure! The buy-ins are being run by the casino. Will you just be late to the tournament, or late getting to the casino at all? If you're around the casino earlier, you might be able to buy in to the tournament, then show up after it starts.

Also, if we have extra spaces, you might be able to buy in after the tournament starts. Most places I know of allow late registration up to the first break, or so.

I was asking for someone whose flight lands at 7:15 and he didn’t think he’d get to the hotel until an hour or so after the tournament started. I’m leaning toward playing but haven’t decided yet. Most tournaments that have a specific start time and buy in price frown on late arrivals, but some will allow a stack to pay the blinds until the player arrives so their money is in the game and there’s no advantage to arriving late.

You're actually getting a better response than I did either time I did it. So don't worry :)

The people who read the forum are a small fraction of TAM attendees. What is crucial is having a sign-up sheet prominently displayed at/near registration.

You can always cancel last-minute, although I think Poker Room Joe knows a guy who knows a guy...

The Pilsner that you posted as an option a couple of weeks ago, looked good!

Do you have any choices? It will be more difficult for me this year, as I'm going to Vancouver the weekend before TAM first, so I'll have to find something there, but I'll see what I can do.....

One six-pack of Lagunitas Pils it is. For those who are confused by this, it is a side bet that Horatius and I had going last year. If I get knocked out of the tournament before him (as if), he gets the six-pack. If he gets knocked out before me (much more likely), the person doing the knocking gets the beer. If I knock him out myself, party in my room!

I'm not fussy. Well, not too fussy. It does have to be drinkable. There is a micro-brewery in BC that makes some pretty tasty beers, but I am not sure if you will find it in Vancouver as they are kind of out in the middle of nowhere.

We'll have a sign-up sheet somewhere around the TAM rooms on Thursday, but if there's spots left, we'll accept people as late as possible. The Poker Guy said we could run with as few as 21 people, and from what Mr. Ottle said, we'll most likely get that many from non-forum attendees, so we'll be running the tournament for sure.

What exactly is the wager and the stakes?

The stake is a 6-pack of some local/interesting beer or other beverage. The way it works is as a bounty system, although we may have to change the rules slightly if a bunch of people want to play. Last year, it was between Horatius and me, with the person staying in the tournament the longest winning, and the extra 6-pack going to the person who knocked the loser out. So since I went out first, Horatius got the 6-pack of Maui beer I brought, and he gave his 6-pack to the person who knocked me out.

If you want to make it a three way bet, we can have the winner take all three 6-packs, and then give the two of his/her choice to the people who knocked out the competition, keeping the third one for him/herself. Of course, if I personally knock out both you and Horatius, I get to keep all three! If more people want to play, we can have the ultimate winner distribute the beer as the participants get knocked out, or else keep a list of who did what where.

We've been doing 6-packs of beer.

This is an evolution of previous years. There were a lot more people at TAM 5 who brought bounties - knock them out, and you got their bounty. This seemed to wane at TAM 6, but for TAM 7, Hokulele and I got into it as a personal grudge match thing, after she disparaged my Awzum Poker Skillz.

If others were inclined to join us, we'd certainly be willing to drink your beer...:D

And it doesn't have to be beer, either. The first year, I brought a wood bowl I had turned on my lathe, and the year after that, a NWO Kitty mug.

I will see what I can bring as a bounty. I don't know much about local beers (either here in IN or my previous home LV)

I will check out a neighborhood liquor store, see if they can recommend somehting good and local here to Indy. (It will be probably be corn beer or something).

Yes, Texas Holdem. Beer bet knockout bounties optional, but encouraged!

I couldn't find the Tasty Beaver beer here in Vancouver, but I did get a local brew called "Red Rider", or some such. They have a couple of types, and I went for the lager. Had one that a buddy bought the other night, and it seemed drinkable.

And the cans are pretty. Hot Chick on Retro Bicycle.
