View Full Version : Are born-again christians allowed to "dance with themselves"???

I'd rather ask this question on the rapture-ready board but it seems to be a touchy subject over there.

I think I'd get banned so I'll post it here.

I noticed in the Janet Jackson thread over there that more than a few people were concerned that seeing something like this would somehow push men "over the edge".

Some even suggested it would result in outright rape.

I've also noticed that sex-outside of marriage-is a big no-no.

That leaves quite a few people who theoretically--have no outlet
for their "desires".

Are they allowed to masturbate?????...

Is it reasonable for some horny, hormone-filled sixteen year old to go YEARS without any physical relief????

No wonder they think the sight of a breast will incite men to rape................and of course women have desires too...........

I don't think they're allowed to. First off, it would have to do with being 'impure', and also in the case of Onan, whom they argue was struck down for 'spilling his seed ' (even though most theologians today agree that the sin was coitus interuptus, not masturbation).

I did see one woman post on the christianity.com forums, that she was fine with her kids masturbating because it gave them an outlet, and she fet it would help them avoid premarital sex (however, this was one out of many, and the exception, not the rule).

When I went to RCC school, we were taught that masturbation was equal to premarital sex in it's 'sinfulness.

*but not nearly as much fun!;)

A sight of Janet Jacksons breast is not going to encourage rape...

Pornography does not encourage rape...

Sex on television is not violence against women...

If there is really a horny someone with no outlet to their physical relief, they are not going to go out and rape a person. Most likely, the hormones will overpower the will to "repress the urges", and shortly followed by a barracading in the bathroom with Uncle Manfred's swimsuit magazines...

Is that "Uncle Manfred's swimsuit" magazines, or "Uncle Manfred's" swimsuit magazines? One seems to be a bit more specific than the other, you see.

Just checking.

The traditional method of avoiding that problem is to marry them off at that age or younger.

is THAT what that song is about???

eeeeeeeewwwwwwwwww

Next you'll tell me THAT is what Madonna is singing about in the following gem:

At night, I lock the door where no one else can see
I'm tired of dancing here all by myself
Tonight, I wanna dance with someone else.

Get into the groove

Doesn't anybody just sing about dancing alone and really mean it???

It makes you wonder how this affects the divorce rate amongst
the current & upcoming generation of saved xtians.

Are people rushing into marriage for the wrong reasons????

You can take children, indoctrinate them into thinking that human sexuality is wrong , ban TV, books, videos, and basically shelter them from the real world but eventually--biology is going to play it's role.

If your only "relief" is cold showers and thinking of Jesus......
I can see a lot of kids making some very bad and premature choices about this.

As important as the family is to christians---you have to wonder
if attitudes like this contribute to the breakdown of familes.

I certainly see more than a few screwed up mariages over there.................They may not be divorced but they sure seem miserable.

Well, there IS "SheBop" by Cyndi Lauper.

Whatever happened to her, anyhow, she was a bit more with it than Madumma, or seemed to be at the time.

In a medieval agricultural setting it makes perfect economic sense to marry at puberty and have a whole mess of children as a hedge aganist plague and war.

One way of looking at it is that the industrial revolution is what has screwed everything up.

Another way of looking at it is that automation and birth control have liberated the human race.

What say you?

I would say cold showers & thinking about Jesus as a substitute for sex will result in some very screwed-up individuals.

They may go to heaven---but while they are here on earth....
they are a royal pain-in-the-ass............

She's just released a new CD. Mostly old standards and torch songs. I saw her on a late-night talk show the other day. Her voice seemed a lot more brittle than I remember it.

I think birth control is the downfall of our society, because smart people USE IT!

I can't think of many people who are willing to try and outbreed them.

Natural selection wins every time, because it's natural! Environmentalists take note! :p

Every minuscule increment of walking upright, opposable thumb, or greater intelligence, confers a selective advantage over brutes such as the smilodon (saber tooth tiger).

Smilodon, the smile is on the face of the tiger, but who has the last laugh!?

But what happens when a certain species that has superior intelligence and becomes the dominant species, what then? Does this confer lordship?

I say yes. :p

Whatever is being selected against by birth control is by definition unfit.

Nature red in tooth and claw has spoken! :p

No, xtians are not allowed to masturbate.

Boys were told that if they just resisted, they would be "relieved" in the night, and that was "god's plan".

Touching yourself was a strict no-no. I can remember hating myself for any weakness I might have.

Religion, a way to make people feel bad about every good thing.

Way back when. It's hard to believe it's only about twelve or so years ago. When people other than professional computer type academics (as I was then) first got access to the internet.

For a while the most common plaint on Usenet was 'Is it OK to masturbate?' on nearly all forums.

It opened my eyes to the torment that's out there, and this thread has provoked me to nostalgia.

So go ahead and masturbate, kid. And don't relate it to your theory of the universe, that way lies insanity. :p

I'm a bit of a Chris Brookmyre fan - in Not The End of the World (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0349109281/qid=1076214408/sr=1-3/ref=sr_1_11_3/202-7216847-3413462) he has a character claim a statistical link between fundie views and child abuse as some abusers believed it less of a sin to "use" their children than to "dance with themselves".
Would anyone know if this is in fact the case?
It also gives me the chance to recommend Brookmyre.

(missed a word - overnight support stupid wudang makes)

Relief will happen, but it may require a laundering of the bed sheets. Nature is smarter than the foolish.

However, as pointed out, if you take care of 'things' a bit more often than Nature does, you will be a more pleasant person to be around.

Maybe that's why some Christians are so annoying?

I'd hesitate to make such a statement. I'd at least advise use of the qualifier "some." How many hundreds of sects are there? I'd say that a good many don't care, or turn a blind eye. (Insert joke about how that eye became blind in the first place.) I wouldn't say that there are sects out there that encourage masturbation, but I wouldn't be surprised if there were one or two.

You'd be surprised at how progressive some xians can be. I first learned about sperms and eggs and penii and vagini and all that icky stuff (in the most gentle and inoffensive way possible) when I was around 8 -- and this was in Sunday School!
