I booked a rental car through Dollar a couple months ago, and thought I'd check their site today to see if any new deals had popped up. There weren't any specials, but I found that the overall rates had dropped significantly. All I had to do was modify my reservation by selecting the same class of car for the same dates and it came up $110 cheaper.
I've seen this happen before with car rates... I assume it has something to do with the agency determining they have excess inventory for a specific time period so they drop the prices. Or maybe someone with bad BO stunk up their entire fleet so the cars are cheaper until they air out.

I'm glad I check out this thread - thanks. I'll have to tell my dad when we get together soon to go on holiday. ;)

If you book through Travelocity and find a lower price, according to their price guarantee, We will refund difference in price, plus give you $50 off your future travels
I've never tried taking them up on it. ;)

My guess is there are so many asterisks and small print that they have never actually had to pay.

And don't forget that when looking at rental prices, you need to find the actual total cost. The various taxes and facility fees that get added onto the base rate can almost double what you end up paying.
For example, the mid-size I'm getting from Dollar is $83.19... but there's another $55.14 in courtesy charges.

Need a ride? Maybe I can help drive some people around. South Point is about 12 minutes from my house.

That is so generous of you, but it could mean a lot of driving for you.

I found a rental car on Expedia for $10 and change per day. Even with all the taxes and fees it comes to less than $80 for the 4 days. Definitely worth checking back from time to time.

But the $80 doesn't include the taxes and other necessary charges, right? Thank you for the information, I did check Expedia, the deal is good.
