The EU has adopted regulations "to ensure that consumers are not misled by unsubstantiated, exaggerated or untruthful claims about foodstuffs". They are requiring the health food industry to back up claims it makes for its products with evidence. The industry is upset.
The European Food Safety Authority has been given the job of figuring out which claims are supported, and is so far rejecting about 80% of them.
