They weren't as much fun as Randi was on 20/20, but I did enjoy Morley Safer's look at Evangelical Christianity last night. I was curious if anyone else saw it.

I did enjoy the Baptist theologian's response: "I would rather put my trust in God."

Too much of Evangelicalism is about "Me, me, me," and how "I can save myself." Truth to tell, it got real old, real quick.

Anyone else?

I saw it, RT, and pretty much agree with what you wrote. It was a respectful but critical piece, I thought. I wonder how our friends at Rapture Ready reacted to it. Anyone see a thread? I'm off to search...

Don't know about reruns, but many of the folks they interviewed...

Well, let's just say...

here's an RR thread about it (http://www.rr-bb.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=130897)

I'm just about to read it.

A taste:

we got a bonus in hearing the President bear witness to receiving Christ as his Savior.

And another:

It is so neat that God is making the news about the rapture to the mainstream thru a show like 60 minutes.

Wow! God got onto '60 minutes'? pretty soon they'll be saying he's more famous than the Beatles.

Just out of Curiousity, who's this 'Jenkins' Guy?

Peter LaHaye and Jenkins are the authors of the wildly popular (but horribly written) "Left Behind" Series about the end of the world as prophesied in the Book of Revelation. It's proof that one can make a lot of money pandering to moronic evangelical Christians.

I saw it. I thought they did an excellent job of giving these people enough rope to hang themselves with. Showing the video for release to those left behind after the rapture was just classic.

Also firmed up my resolve to vote against Bush. Anybody who deliberately avoids doubt is too dangerous to be president.

Evangelicals- the Doomsday Cult without the guts to name a date. :D

From the RR thread:
Look at what the Lord has done in a short period of time!!!!! THE WORLD is now aware of the Blessed Hope and how to be a part of it!!! They know exactly how not to be left here when the trib begins -- the decision is up to them. Let's give God praise and glory for this Endtime miracle!!!!
All right, rapture me, baby!

Can you even begin to fathom how these people think? It's absolutely amazing. What is their internal picture of god?

ok, i started reading the RR thread and I have one simple question; why did these people seem to have such a hard time finding 60 minutes? It isn't like it's a new show on UPN...

RR: "Gave me chills to see how many there really are of us staying true to the word of God in regard to the rapture."

gives me the chills too :D
