Weren't you considering Burning Man instead of Dragon*Con?Only for a little while. I chose to return to D*C, this year.

If and when several of the following happens, I might change my mind:
* More people I know start attending Burning Man

* Some professional/technological/etc. excuse develops for me to attend B.M.

* I grow tired of D*C (diminishing returns is a real phenomenon, but unlikely to hit me for the next few years)

* I get a little more insane in the membrane, than usual, one year.

Oh I plan to spend most of my time at the skeptic track. Seeing Randi in person would be like a dream come true for me. I hate it that the first time he came, I didn't go that year. :(

I was glad when they started the skeptic panels at Dragon Con. It was a nice change to the X-Files track filled with woo.

My badge will have Tacita on it by the way, so you can say "hi" if you see me.

Is this black tie? :)In general, D*C is about as far removed from black tie as a Spring Break beach party.

This Star Party thing, which is a private event, and NOT part of D*C, seems to recommend cocktail party attire, which is a few steps below black tie.

However, some of the Ninjas may be wearing black belts. (That is, of course, if you are unfortunate enough to actually see them.)

Summer Glau is now, once again, on D*C's guest list. Though, I don't see her on the photo-op page, yet. But, I don't need it. I already got my photo taken with Summer a few years ago. Although, that was before she was a Terminator.

Joel Hodgson is still on the guest list. (I doubt he will do professional photo-ops.) Hopefully, he'll stay on there at least long enough for me to actually meet him, this time!!!!!

Phil Plait cancelled. But, that's okay, by me. We've seen so much of each other, in the past few years, that I suspect we both suspect we were each stalking each other.

Neal Adams will be there, if anyone feels like giving him some crap about his expanding-Earth theory.

Yep. That much is true. Though, I've already run into a few of those folks.

It is mainly Joel I am after, this year. Especially since I missed opportunities to meet him, earlier.

I won't be able to attend the live RiffTrax thing tomorrow. But, I might catch the encore presentation - and whatever they'll be doing at Dragon*Con.

But no, I don't think I'm gonna bring up the expanding-Earth theory...I don't know if I will or not. But, I promise to be gentle and diplomatic about it, if I do. I won't be what Phil Plait likes to call "a dick".

I can make a small card that you can attach the bottom of your D*C badge. It will have the words "Member of the JREF Internet Forum", with your user name and avatar (if you have one) below.

I will make one for myself. Anyone else interested?! Perhaps I will just make one for all the members on the list (it's not too long), and people can take them if they want to, or not, if they see me.

These cards will NOT have your real names on them. Your real name will most likely be on your real D*C badge, anyway.

Last Call for Forum Badges! I intend to build and print them in the morning (Sunday). I will also try to see if I can accommodate anyone after that, but there are no guarantees.

I will probably do one for everyone on the list, so far, even if you didn't ask for one, because there are only 18 people on it, and that is a small enough number to work with. But, if anyone else wants to pop themselves on to the list, for a badge (or not), now is the time to do so!!

I will, by default, use the avatar you have as of Sunday morning, unless you have instructed me otherwise. If you do not have an avatar, I will only have your user name on it.

If you have a custom title, I might put that on the badge, too.

Attached is a preview image of the badges. The edges might look a little rough on some of them, but that is only the temporary covering that is rough, as I will explain shortly. The actual cards seem to be nicely cut. Also, the shine is from the covering, as well.

I made them entirely out of ingredients I had at home. Since I didn't have any semi-pre-cut business card templates, I had to improvise a solution with some other materials: Plain card stock paper (left over from when I once tried to make my own card game - don't ask), double-stick tape (to attach to the real badge), and a plastic sheet (to temporarily protect the tape).

You probably can't tell from the image, but the tops of each badge has double-stick tape across the top margin, above the words "JREF Forum Member". On the Left you will see a sample JREF badge attached to the bottom of last year's D*C badge. The double-stick tape gets stuck to the back of the real D*C badge, and the rest of the card hangs down from it. See?

To protect the cards from all sticking together, I had to cover them with a plastic sheet that can be pulled off, when the badge is ready to use. The sheet was sometimes hard to cut through, hence the rough edges. And, also hence the shine.

Only took about an hour to do them, from concept to can.

Attached is a preview image of the badges. The edges might look a little rough on some of them, but that is only the temporary covering that is rough, as I will explain shortly. The actual cards seem to be nicely cut. Also, the shine is from the covering, as well.

I made them entirely out of ingredients I had at home. Since I didn't have any semi-pre-cut business card templates, I had to improvise a solution with some other materials: Plain card stock paper (left over from when I once tried to make my own card game - don't ask), double-stick tape (to attach to the real badge), and a plastic sheet (to temporarily protect the tape).

You probably can't tell from the image, but the tops of each badge has double-stick tape across the top margin, above the words "JREF Forum Member". On the Left you will see a sample JREF badge attached to the bottom of last year's D*C badge. The double-stick tape gets stuck to the back of the real D*C badge, and the rest of the card hangs down from it. See?

To protect the cards from all sticking together, I had to cover them with a plastic sheet that can be pulled off, when the badge is ready to use. The sheet was sometimes hard to cut through, hence the rough edges. And, also hence the shine.

Only took about an hour to do them, from concept to can.

I'm just letting everyone know this, in case one my clients or future potential employers happens to find this thread. I know it ruins the humor, but that's what my lawyers do. That's what they're good at doing. I'm the "funny man", and they're the "serious dudes". We tend to cancel each other out, into blandness. But, that's why I don't bring them to parties.

Interesting close-call this morning: My Droid Incredible got a major software update pushed onto it. And, afterwards, the built-in Twitter app. stopped working properly: It would not log me in, despite my knowing exactly how to enter my user name and password.

But, then I eventually discovered that I could use the Official Twitter app, instead. So, we're all good to go!

As an additional last resort, I could also update Twitter through standard text messaging.

It was pretty awesome: I chatted with James Randi, consumed Australian delicacies and took pictures of a Weeping Angel getting vaccinated.* What more could one want?

*Actually, her outfit didn't allow her to get the vaccine, but she came over to the clinic to have her picture taken to promote vaccination.

Oh, it is no problem. You know, as busy as I get at Dragon*Con, I 'forget' about stuff like that until a week or so AFTER the event.

Heck, this reminds me... I still have to do all of my post-con paperwork I need to complete as a Director!
