Somehow I doubt that much critical thought went into this story for Newsweek.

The two earliest and most reliable extra-Biblical references to Jesus—those of the historians Josephus and Tacitus—say Jesus was executed by Pilate. The Roman prefect was Caiaphas' political superior and even controlled when the Jewish priests could wear their vestments and thus conduct Jewish rites in the Temple. Pilate was not the humane figure Gibson depicts. According to Philo of Alexandria, the prefect was of "inflexible, stubborn, and cruel disposition," and known to execute troublemakers without trial.

If this were true, it is certainly easy to believe that certain rabble rouser named Yeshua was actually executed... The son of God stuff needs a little more explanation...

Actually I wonder how Law and Order would handle the investigation? If they found Jesus' wallet and watch still on the body they would rule out mugging right away. Briscoe and Green would have to interview all the apostles and others around the neighbourhood, maybe shake down a leper for information, that sort of thing.

Yeah, Newsweek had a bad week. In the same issue they had a "My Turn" article from a psychic whow was bemoaning her lot in life. "Everybody asks me stuff!" "I have odd dreams!". It's a living hell.

Down here in Arizona, many a Jesus get killed on a regular basis... along with some other unfortunate individuals trying to cross over into the U.S. Not our most proud moment in our state history, however the Pro American/Anti Illegal dudes are guilty... Yet another film in which Jesus doesn't look anything like what I would expect a Jewish man from that time to look like. In my mind, he would be a lot darker. He would have been out in the sun a lot, and have a deep tan on top of an olive complexion.
