I'm inviting responses from folks who grew up in New York City or near it. And over 40. But of course all are welcome.

How old are you? I miss Dorothy Kilgallan. And Doctor Rose Franzblau is still my favorite advice columnist. Doctor Ruth Westheimer doesn't hold a candle to Doctor Rose Franzblau. And f&&K Doctor Laura! :p

Do you remember when the New York Post was a Commie rag, and the Daily News was the right-wing Catholic paper? :p

The past is a foreign country. People do things different there. (Rushdie)

IIRC it was "The Go Between", LP Hartley.

I said all are welcome, and that includes you.

I didn't say you are welcome to be a zhadrul. That's a phonetic spelling, figure it out.

I ask: Do you remember the the good old left wing NY Post? Before Rupert Murdoch acquired it?

Zhadrul sitting in the ghostly glow in Antarctica or where? I suspect Rupert Murdoch is your estwhile countryman. :p

If not, please correct me.

I thought it was owned by the Moonies? No, that was the Washington Post. No, wait, the New York Times. NO! Washington Times?

Why can't American newspaper owners come up with different names like in the UK? Don't look to Australia for an example, we seem to steal all our newspaper names from the UK.

I'm also wondering if we have a different idea as to what 'phonetics' means. To me, it means writing words like "AHB-dewl AHL-hass-red". <--- probably crappy phonetics, but really, who writes it this way any more? Oh, I do. Never mind.

Yeah OK, Manifestual One.

I guess I have to spell it out. Zhadrul == Citrollo. That's how it's pronounced where I grew up in New York City.

Citrollo is the Italian word for cucumber, but colloquially it means a person who we English speakers would call a prick.

I don't know if this usage exists in Italy. But in New York City, this Italo-American term is widely known.

The slam on Australia is aimed at the owner of the New York Post, although he has sworn an oath to uphold our constitution and is now officially one of us.
