Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry is the frontrunner for the Democratic presidential nomination. But in 1961, he was a student at Saint Paul's prep school in New Hampshire, where he played bass guitar for a band called the Electras. A copy of the band's album sold on eBay this week for more than $2,500. Hear NPR's Bob Edwards.
He didn't strike me the type, and a bass player, too.

Come on now, the long face, the slow-moving, almost unconcious demeanor?
That's got "bass player" written all over it!

Hmm... he should play in a "battle of the senatorial bands" against the "Singing Senators." (Jim Jeffords, Larry Craig, John Ashcroft, and Trent Lott.) Of course, I think the Singing Senators must've broken up when Jeffords left the Republican party, because the group was All-republican.

Did you hear the clip they played on NPR? Basically he played a single note in rythem.
Now, some of you may think that means he wasn't much of a bass player, but as a tuba player, let me tell you, that's 90% of what we do. :D

I was infrequent bass player in a garage band: Root note of the chord! In time if I was lucky.
Still, I'm impressed they cut an album. It was the '60s, and they were in high school.

Assuming I can get my brass out to the next TAM, maybe we ought to see if we can put a little group together?
On second thought, that might not be a good idea. Being skeptics, we'd constantly be stopping to check if the music was right.
