I thought I had a thread for this but I can't find it.

Dale (my wife) is all signed up for her online classes so it's even more important that we have mobile internet.

I remember somebody posting something about a rental USB dongle thing for your laptop, very similar to the CLEAR 4G rental that a lot of us used at TAM8. I can't for the life of me find it.

The best I can find right now is a USB Dongle that you buy with a SIM, then pay to charge it with data traffic. I'd rather not do that for something I'm only going to use once.

So, friends down under, any ideas?

Telstra have the best coverage, but are notorious for being massively overpriced.

Not sure on the whole renting thing. They may exist, but I've not seen a service like that around.

I think I found a solution that would be better long term.

Zoom makes a 3G USB Wireless Modem (Model 4596). So I can get that and just pickup a data SIM. I'm planning on going to the UK for TAMLondon next year, so I can use it there too.

I recommend Optus - they're pretty reliable, IMO, and not as expensive as others. I haven't tested it in inner Sydney.

Yah, that looks like the best pick so far. Stupid USB Wireless Modem is on backorder, grrrr.. I'll get the SIM in Cairns if possible.

There's wifi around too so I shouldn't need it to much, but Dale needs it for her classes in case the wifi is spotty.
