View Full Version : Ideas For An Open Agenda Presentation...

I've been invited to attend one of these open agenda type retreats with other people from my company.

Basically I can present or do anything I want. If I just want to tag along with some other people and do what they do, that's fine. If I want to light a fire and roast marshmallows, that's cool, too.

But I've decided I want to do a presentation.

My first thought for topic was "What I learned at TAM", but since no one there will know what TAM is I don't think it'll be much of a draw.

My current thought is a topic like "How humans can be fooled". I plan to do some magic tricks, present some optical illusions and pareidolia, and finish up with the Gorilla film (if I have to get permission to use it and I can't get permission, then I won't do the presentation. I want that to be the climax of the presentation).

The problem I'm having is finding some way to wrap it up. The people I'm presenting to are in the software industry and I haven't been able to find some unifying thought that involves being fooled and developing software.

Even though this is open agenda and doesn't have to involve software, I'd like to leave them with something they could apply in their work-a-day lives. Besides being somewhat technical and computer savvy, there's not a lot else that unifies these people.

Can anyone offer some suggestions?

Thanks,
A

Hm, just throwing ideas around...

How about useless gadgets? Not sure if they are still around, but I remember that there used to be films you were supposed to stick on your display to decrease the radiation.

Or spam mails? Nigerian scams? While not purely technical, that is something everyone has some experience with, and it could be a good start for a talk about how any why people can be fooled.
