Can anyone tell me in idiot stages how to put someone elses quotes in a post. I used to be able to do this by dragging the quote up but it doesn't seem to work and I never knew how to do quotes from other pages than the last page of the threads.
thanks

Well if you just click 'quote' on the post you wish to post, it should do it for you.

Basically, the quote you are posting should be preceded by (quote) and ended with (/quote), only with square brackets instead of round ones.

You can nest these, meaning you could have (quote)this is you quoting person A(quote)And this is person A quoting person B(/quote)now we're back to your original person A's quote(/quote) and now all quoting is finished.

Just make sure each opening (quote) has a closing (/quote) at the end.

Or is this not your question?

Cheers,
Rat.

[ quote ]
Quoted stuff here.
[ /quote ]

Makes...

Quoted stuff here.

Except that the top version has extra spaces around the quote and /quote to make them not get interpreted as "quote this".

It used to be you could press "edit" on any post and see the source text to learn how things were done; you were just not allowed to save any changes. This was very, very helpful for teaching the vB/UBB tags. Now you just get the big "you don't have permission" thing immediately.

Off topic, but an interesting bit of trivia about the guy who wrote all those "For Dummies" books. When Cameron Crowe went back to high school to write the book that became "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" the character Rat was based on him, according to this site. (http://www.fast-rewind.com/)

I usually just cut and paste the relevant text and add inverts and 'Fred said' at the front
