View Full Version : 9/11 State of Emergency

On September 9, 2010 there will be a special airing on the History Channel (http://www.history.com/schedule/9/9) at 9 pm (EDT) called "9/11 State of Emergency". I'm not sure of the entire contributor list, but I know a few JREF members did assist with the project. I have not seen the final cut since the producer cannot send out a copy until after the show airs, so I'll be watching it for the first time with the rest of you.
This ground-breaking documentary tells the story of 9/11 in the words of key political and military leaders, and ordinary men and women who suddenly found themselves on the frontlines of a new kind of war. National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice, White House Chief of Staff Andrew Card, Chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Dick Myers, Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld and a host of other top officials take viewers deep inside the corridors of power during the most dramatic day of the century, offering fresh insights into the unprecedented state of emergency that was 9/11.

Interesting, History Channel discussing History.
Looks worthwhile. The oldest has been asking some questions about 9/11 recently.

Actually the most interesting show (IMHO) will be the telephone calls from the towers which is showing on 9/11 on the discovery channel.
maybe we can here those "explosives" going off in the background... Or maybe someone will say something like "hey the walls are glowing, and I see a river of molten steel."

That (or a very similar documentary) aired last year.
Perhaps it doesn't need to be said that it's extraordinarily painful to watch.
Nothing about molten steel that I can recall; quite a bit about desperate frightened people reaching out for help or for loving voices in their final minutes of life.

Ah.. I haven't seen it before, and they are advertising it right now (here in the UAE).
I concur, those phone calls would be (and will be) heartbreaking to listen to.

Don't forget... the mics in phones are designed to pick up noises only a few inches from the mouthpiece. There is no way that you can tell what's an explosion in a taped phone conversation. [/MM,C7 mode]

I believe the actual title of the Discovery Channel documentary is "9/11: Phone Calls from the Towers." I'm not 100% certain that's the same documentary as the one on that subject I recall watching last year, but Web sources confirm that it was first broadcast in the U.S. last year.

Intrigued, I was about the thread title. Wasn't what I thought it was though. I had thought you were wondering about the war measures , permanent state of emergency, curfews and police state regulations (ala "1984"), not to mention a third GWB term(or the election of his brother to POTUS) we are supposed to be living with by now.

I agree. I've heard too much death in my life, and could go without listening to it again.
But, the show that WD mentions might be worth watching.
Of course, my favorite documentary on 9/11 is "9/11" by the Naudet Brothers. Excellent!

i wonder what the secret service thinks of this show?...i seriously doubt there was any chance they would have let the president go back to the white house........it scares me that the destruction of two buildings, a small section of the pentagon, four plane crashes and the ensuing cell phone tsunami completely cripples us gov't secure cell communications........i amworried about the NSA wandering around the white house at a total loss other than yelling at the president not to come back which the SS would not have allowed anyway, all the while apparently not seeking intelligence on the attack from the appropriate agencies.....even though we now know they had lots to tell her if she had asked........i find it quite bizarre the freakin secretary of defense is humping a stretcher in what i heartfelt was a self-agrandizing photo op instead of being spirited away to a secure area to what?.........maybe do his freakin job?.......he puts me in mind of the unqualified politicians who fenagled military rank during the civil war in order to advance their political careers......all in all, a highly disturbing demonstration that we are truly wasting our money paying these hacks to protect us...........it was effective in attempting to explain why the president just sat their condescending a bunch of tiny tots instead of bowing out gracefully with some sort of dispatch and getting into the air.........or maybe not...............i am a little uncomfortable however, with the intersection of the unbelievable stories of individual bravery on the part of certain regular working citizens and the apparently total confusion and paralysis on the part of our leaders?............no, wait a minute, i'm very uncomfortable with that...........but what can i do, i am as much a dinosaur as donald rumsfeld, but i am so sorry for the incredibly impotent condoleeza rice because she thought it was all "just terrible"..............yeah, i'll say.

Cell phones don't work when we all use them; we all pay for something that does not really work when we may want to use it! We are fools who pay too much for something ATT and others are making mega profits for.
If I was the president I would go where I wanted! I am the president; screw the SS. We also have 350 million candidates for President.
Too late for the SECDEF to do anything about 911; he is not the tip of the spear.
What can leaders do? Go ahead list what they can do when they don't know what is really happening.

Dissatisfied?
Mysterious or suspicious is more to the point.
The President, Mr. Big himself, is at a well publicized location and those
sworn to move him to safe haven sit back and let him read children's stories?
The SS wasted no time moving Cheney out of harms way.

They moved Cheney about 100' away into a shelter more than 20 minutes after the second hit on the WTC. This was about the same time that they moved Bush to Air Force 1.
Sounds to me like they "Wasted" plenty of time before Cheney was moved out of his office.

Just noticed this story that explains how the audio in 9/11 State of Emergency was "enhanced":
Prime Focus Sound Designer and Mixer Phitz Hearne, who recently won an Emmy for his work on Nutopia's 'America The Story of Us,' ensured the aural landscape matched the visual presentation. "The client really wanted to maintain the gritty realism of the archive footage," said Phitz. "We wanted to increase the impact of the sound whilst keeping its realism, so we made sure it stayed within the 'recorded on a camcorder' feel. It needed to feel as though it was amateur, but it also needed to have a broadcast production value to it."
"A lot of the archive footage audio needed to be rebuilt," added Phitz, "so we found slightly more realistic sounding clips - bangs, explosions, girder creaks - and built the atmosphere that the badly recorded camcorder sound could lie on. We tried to be very sympathetic to the historical situation - it’s not even been 10 years and there are people for whom it is as fresh in their mind today as it was when it happened."
http://news.creativecow.net/story/864668
Thought I'd post the details here for reference, just in case a particular "bang" or "explosion" turns up in a YouTube video as evidence of something dubious.

We didn't do that to you, you made a choice to spend countless hours reading & watching pure BS from Truthers. They've brainwashed you & you took their ignorance based on a whim & a hunch.
