AT this point Im more worried about the economy than terrorism. Every day there are more stories about job cuts, government cuts, and rising costs. I worry more about my job than if I will be hit by terror.
Im starting to think that this Iraq thing is a distraction from the domestic problems. The thought of paying billions to Turkey and billions to invade/rebuild Iraq disgusts me. Just think of how those funds are needed domestically. I think its more cost effective to contiune with the high pressure and UN sanctions.
Sure some will say 911 is the cause for the poor economy but thats bull. Yes is did have a severe effect but 911 has played the scapegoat for too long.
Just some Monday ramblings.

I agree, the economy does scare me. We have recessions, downturns, or stagnation in most of the major economies of the world. If a few european banks go under, the ripples could hit us all.
The US economy I am not too worried about. We have mixed economic indicators. We are running deficits but they are the lowest percentage of any of the worlds 7 largest economies. Although we went through a short recession, we have sort of stagnated instead of recovery.
Lately I have been musing the roaring economy we came out. We had so many jobs and equipment paid for with venture capital, bread and butter businesses prospered selling goods and services to these new business. The chain reaction was amazing, but it was all built like a house of cards. Remember the balanced budget? It was only balanced because of increased tax revenue from all of this.
The "new" economy was based on unfeasible business plans. The "old" economy lied about still making money after the new economy fell its on ass back in 1999.
I short, if it weren't for bad business plans, pure waste of venture capital, and in some areas outright deception; the booming economy we had would probably not have been so booming.
In short, I don't miss the deception economy. It was great while it lasted but all deception economies are doomed to fail. When they fail, cars and houses get repossessed, people lose jobs all at once flooding the job market, companies go under, and generally its not a good thing.
All in all. I would rather be in a stagnant but relatively stable economy than another house of cards. Things could be a lot worse. I am hoping that growth will once again cycle upwards during the next presidential period 2004-2008. I only hope we get things setup now to help that happen.

What scares me most?
Thinking about how close we came to having Gore deal with Bin Ladin and Saddam while simultaneously being
"taxed into prosperity" to counteract the current economic downswing...
oooooooo, that's sscary!....

...is a nagging worry that Bush Incorporated has hit upon a strategy of permanent international warfare as a tool of domestic policy:
"How can you be so un-American to complain about the slumping economy, your vanishing retirement fund, and eroding civil rights? Don't you know there's A WAR ON? We MUST support President-for-Life Bush and his request for suspension of the Constitution!"
Alarmist? Maybe.
But I don't trust that bast**d any farther than I could throw Air Force One.

As the mother of a teenager who works at not one, but two, US fast food chains, I worry that my daughter will be subjected to considerable hostility in and around her workplace as anti-war, particularly anti-US, sentiment increases here during the coming weeks.
