Yeah, I just checked that out because I was wondering what the rock band was doing in relation to that stuff. Anyway with a little more research, the only thing the two have to due with each other is the name. Although I wouldn't be surpirsed if Gene Simmons allowed the usage of the trademark to publishers to make a few bucks.

I just went back to last week's newsletter to re-read something and I noticed there has been an update since I read it last friday.

If you weren't aware of it the item regarding the KISS manual on astrology has a very happy ending, now.

They wouldn't have to send Gene a cent, because they didn't use the band's trademark.

The name of the band is KISS, not K.I.S.S., which means "keep it simple stupid'. KISS, the band name, doesn't mean anything beyond it's obvious definition of pressing your lips against something.

Gene wouldn't be to collect anything from the publisher.

Strange as it seems, Gene Simmons is a pretty level-headed guy and strikes me as the skeptical type. While I'm not certain, I doubt that he would want to be associated with such crap as astrology.

According to Gene Simmons, they did. You can read theentire thing at http://www.snopes.com/music/hidden/kiss.htm, but I particularly liked this part (a quote from Gene Simmons):

Is he a skeptic? Hard to say. But he seems to have a pretty low tolerance for stupidity.

Perhaps it would be better to put corrections at the beginning of the following weeks column?

I'm sure most folks are like me, they read the latest commentary & rarely go back. I would never have known about this particular question had I not stumbled into this discussion area & read about it. And the correction is important enough that it should warrant a larger audience....when something like this is corrected it should be well advertised!

That link didn't quite work but when you do get to the snopes article they list that urban myth as false:

One day Paul [Stanley] and Peter [Criss] and I were driving around, brainstorming for new names. I had thought of a few, like Albatross, but I wasn't happy with any of them. At one point -- we were stopped at a red light -- Paul said, "How about KISS?" Peter and I nodded, and that was it. It made sense. Hindsight is 20/20, of course, and since then people have talked about all the benefits of the name: how it seemed to sum up certain things about glam rock at the time; how it was perfect for international marketing because it was a simple word that people understood all over the world. But we just liked the name, and that was that.
. . . misinformation about the band began to spread in the southern Bible Belt states, including a rumor that the name KISS stood for Knights in Satan's Service, and that the four of us were devil worshipers. Ironically, this rumor started as a result of an interview I gave in Circus magazine after our first album; in response to a question, I said that I sometimes wondered what human flesh tastes like. I never wanted to really find out, but I was curious intellectually. Later on, this comment seemed to ignite the whole idea that in some way KISS was aligned with devil worship.
