View Full Version : My gripe about Michael Savage

Just venting here:

Michael Savage was one of the few rational voices on talk radio in the United States. His defense of capitalism in America was measured by his success through honest and hard work throughout his life. Throughout his career as the voice of American conservativism, he warned us of the dangers of big government and of the moral decay of this country. Warning us of the moral decay of our country, teaching us the values of honest and hard work. And I emphasize was.

All of this came from a snake oil salesman who continues to sell his nonsense on his website. Homeopathy, autism denial and (although I can't confirm this) a believer in the anti-vaccine movement shared by people like Bill Maher and Jenny McCarthy.

Some people believe that this man is trying to protect capitalism and the free market. On the contrary, he is stabbing it in the back with his quackery. If more people were aware of this ethical flaw in Michael Savage's character, people would stop listening to this imposter. A problem exists with this however. Thanks to this man, whenever people hear someone, an actual honest and hard working person, trying to defend said political concept they would think, "Oh, that's the same thing that Michael Savage said. I'm pretty sure that this new guy is also a quack as well." (Of course, we can always inform people about the logical fallacy of guilt by association but that's a different story.)

And that is my gripe with Michael Savage.

Bigotry and extremism is not rational.

Sounds like normal Libertarian stuff to me.

I have only heard of him, but "moral decay" is usually code for "don't like them queers", "babies killers [pro-choicers" and/or "godless heathens". Gag.

Someone sold him a microphone?

Unfortunately, yes. Also, I should have underlined the word "was" in my first post for each sentence in the first paragraph. That I forgot to do.

I don't think most free-marketiers or libertarians are in favor of closing the borders and imposing tariffs on a foreign country. I'm one of them by the way.

Could you provide a link to that? I'm trying to sort through all of those banner ads.

Meh. The majority of his "points" or whatnot struck me as Libertarian.

Do you believe in the FDA? What, if anything, do you think the government should do about quacks?

Just venting here:

<snip vent>
I am aware that it's a vent but it contains logical fallacies. Perfectly reasonable people in one area can be total jerks in another. Maher is one example. He's a health nut but spot on regarding religion.

So Savage (who I detest, by the way) can hold solid, skeptical positions on one are and be a loon in others. As long as he rationally defends the defensible positions, that should not contaminate his other stands.

Second, because he's a loon in, for example, his politics does not imply that other commentators who share his views are automatically tainted by his looniness in other spheres.

I love "close the borders". It's expressed like "close the windows". like you can just wander around, throw a few switches, and that's that.
Other hits "Privatize the regulation of wall Street", which obviously failed a couple of years ago, and "End Affirmative Action", sorry, white women. And of course, "run the country like a business", when businesses, of course, exist to extract wealth from the average person.

The savage Wiener spent a lot of time in the rain forests looking for possibly useful medicinal herbs when he was young. I am convinced that he dabbled a bit too deeply in the effects of some of the herbs used in shammanistic rituals to determine what effect they might have on the mind.

I think. I think it is the best explanation for some of the crap I have heard out of his mouth.

The only thing I listen to him for is a good laugh from time to time. The hyperbole is sublime.

Appealing to ther animal instincts of narrow-minded people is a good way to sell books, whether you have any valid arguments or not.
